Told I can't run because of knee replacement. My husband and I walked while others ran. Walked 2.2 miles. Longest distance! I know now I can do the 5k walk and finish it!!!

Carols5417- I'm glad that ur listening to docs advice and not getting discouraged. BTB recently posted something about just finishing a 5k- doesn't matter if u crawl, walk, or run. (Please forgive if the words aren't 100% correct) those are words of wisdom! Good for u and ur dh walking 2.2 miles! What an accomplishment! I can't wait to see the 5k pix of u and the dh. ;)

There's no way you can suck at it! You do what you can, how you can and you progress from there. I'm the least athletic in my group so far but they are extremely supportive and cheering me on when they get the chance because mostly everyone is just trying to finish the WOD and beat their own times. It's never quantity but quality. It's really addictive fun!!

I did CF for about 2 years pre op. Looking back I would have been almost always tail end charlie for most work outs. I can tell you I never left feeling like that. I'd leave feeling like I'd smashed a good work out, just like the person next to me.

Do you actually run it or do you jog?? I have been doing it and I am now on week 8 day 2 and it still takes me over 40min for 3.2 miles.... I thought I was doing good, but I am so slow I signed up for a 5k on 5/11/2013 and I am afraid I will embarrass myself

Oh heavens no you will not embarrass yourself. My typical time for a 5K training run right now is probably 36-37 minutes and I've been running for 7 months. You're on month 2 and you're close to my time so you've got nothing to worry about. There are elderly people there who walk the whole thing. They will finish behind you and they are not embarrassed. They are proud for finishing and you should be as well. You are doing good. Just like weight loss...don't compare your numbers to other people. There will always be people faster than you and slower than you. Tune it all out and focus on yourself. And be proud for the distance you've covered and the progress you've made. Did you ever think you could run 3.2 miles?

Jog!

There's NEVER any embarrassment in having a go. There will be embarrassment if you don't do the 5k now because we know about it! ;)

You will not be alone in doing a slow or very slow jog.

Good luck!

Mate Crossfit is a lot like this thread and starting running.

Virtually everyone sucks at running when they first start' date=' but like Crossfit it doesn't take long to start kicking some goals and making advances.

EVERYONE at Crossfit is supportive and encouraging. These are just words until you see this community in action. Everyone at a Crossfit work out completes a version of the same work out. Lots of people have scaled versions, but everyone has scaled at some point.

If there was one person who I thought would love Crossfit and would engage with it on this forum it would be you. Go and give it one week. I dare you!![/quote']

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to do it.

That's great BTB! I know you will love it. Every WOD will be a challenge, much different from running. You may need to modify your diet a bit to explode on the lifts.

Slow to find this thread. I started couch to 5k last week. I love it and it's the kick in the ass that I need to get me in shape for the 3 5k's I signed up for this year.

Last night should have been a walk-only night for me but I was interested in trying the run-walk format so I did a little running (jogging!) too (treadmill). It was nice and totally manageable. I did 4:2x3 and then did another 2min of run before cooling down. My son decided he was hungry about half way into my second run cycle so I cut things a little shorter than I would have but it was still decent. I think the run/walk might be a good way to go for me.

I need to rest (not run) today because I'm still feeling the time I spent Sunday at the trampoline facility...

Because you all inspire me so much I had some shirts made so none of you would feel bad about not being a fast runner. Next time you think everyone else is faster than you....remember this.

I wear them proudly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
