Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Starting Week 4 day 1 today. I love reading your guys' stories about running. Such an inspiration. I hope I get to the point where I really love running since I noticed it has definitely helped with the weight loss and I want to keep going.

Yup, it is a natural remedy for those things and many more. You are doing the right thing to get started in running.

I finally downloaded the couch to 5k app. Finished off day 1 yay along with leg training. I'm working to doing 10k in october in a decent time. Last year it took me 2 hours though i walked most of it.

Way to go! Week 4 is what I had just completed before I went in the hospital with pancreatitis. Hope to start back up again soon.

Week 8, day 1, done!

My son has been sick close to a week and I've felt like I've been fighting something too. But today was day three of staying home from work with him and we were both going stir crazy, so I figured I'd hit the treadmill.

I didn't think I'd make it and in fact I did have a break when my son wanted a drink, but I did manage to run all 28 minutes. The minutes kept ticking down and I kept pushing myself to make one little goal after the next and I pulled it off. Not pretty, but I'll take it. I'm running at 4.7 mph inside.

There is a 5k in June down in OC I might do with friends. We'll see. I'm not running as far as I'm supposed to since I'm so slow and that makes me worry about doing an actual race- not that I'd be racing! I'd be happy just to finish!

If you are, in fact, fighting something related to the flu it might be bet to give your body a break and keep hydrated. Flu related dehydration is no fun.

Fiddleman, it's not flu! There's no way I'd try to push through that... it's more like a cold trying to come on. I haven't had any fever at all and had a little hint of a sore throat that's gone away. I actually think the running (in general) has given me a boost in fighting whatever this is my son has that hasn't hit me yet (knock on wood). I actually feel pretty good today! =) I think my son is at the end of it too!

I find it hard to believe I will learn to like running. Keep trying to convince me as I practice for what may be my one and only 5K. HA!!!Today was a day of rest and I did an hour of Water aerobics....So much easier on my feet and joints!

Once you experience "the zone" for the first time, you will be hooked. It will be like Frodo putting the ring on his finger. You will be like "my precious...." lol! Such a fantastic feeling and sense of accomplishment comes out of running.

Hey guys. Been a while since I've checked in. Life has been nuts!

I'm on a repeat of week 3 at the moment.

It's really hard getting the running in and crossfit, but I'm enjoying the challenge!

Thanks mate :)

I had a week of night work and I turn into a grizzly bear for a week!

I work patrol nights. 6p to 6a.... Trying to get in a groove of regular workouts. My sergeant has been super supportive through my journey. He suggested putting my workouts on my calendar like I would any other commitment.

Officially cleared for running, weights and the C25K program. Gonna start when I wake up later today!

Have a great day!!

That's a great tip. Shift work makes training hard. It's like you have to have 4 or 5 routines depending on the shift.

I only do night work maybe once a year, so hopefully I won't get derailed next time.

Good luck with the running :)

Deano

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
