Hello all, I'm new here and plan to be sleeved in early to mid March. My particular worry, and its a weird one, is how I'll handle life without eating what I want when I want. I wonder if I'll slip into a depression or something. This has me concerned greatly. Anything anyone wants to add it'll surely be appreciated!!!!!

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago, I can tell you that you will be able to eat anything, eventually. There may be certain things that you just wont tolerate anymore. Also I noticed that your taste does change some. I don't fee depressed or anything yet. For some weird reason what I do look forward to trying to eat again are salads. I also crave a lettuce wrap with lots of Tomato, weird huh? We are responsible for teaching ourselves what we can have versus what we should have. I think you will be fine. don't be scared, it's an adventure and part of our new life. Good luck to you!

I am struggling with that very problem right now. Sometimes (the feeling is fleeting) I get depressed about not "enjoying" food like I used to, i.e., pigging out, eating as much as I want, etc. Sometimes eating post-sleeve is not pleasant, it feels like a chore to me sometimes. Having said this, I don't regret my decision one bit. Only 8 weeks out, I feel great. Being emotional eaters, having most of our stomachs removed doesn't completely address the issue. I am seeing my therapist monthly to help deal with my "food divorce". LOL

I understand what Kendra is saying I'm three months out.

I have had times where I miss the act of stuffing myself with copious amounts of food.

As sick as that sounds I got a few moments of good feelings from eating, but see it was only momentary... And the after affect? Obesity

Eating is not fun now, and i can no longer eat to soothe myself or to have "fun"..but that's what I needed to help me relearn my relationship with food.< /p>

I am a year and a half post op. yes I did go through some depression due to not being able to eat all my favorite foods. Now I have some time under my belt, I can honestly say I am so happy! As for not being able to eat what you want when you want, I am able to eat anything I want whenever I want to. Just not as much. I don't crave all the things I used to, and it is really easy for me to follow the plan now. When I see others eating those huge servings of food I used to eat it makes me want to hurl. I feel so much better all around!

I think that we all have to learn that eating is not a hobby, it's not a sport and it isn't a way to make us happy. It is something that we all probably struggle with to a degree. There's nothing about the surgery that will prevent you from eating what you want (mostly), there's nothing that will prevent you from having a good time. You'll just eat smaller amounts of it. That's really a good thing if you look at it from the standpoint that you will be healthier and more lively. It's hard, like Laura said, there are times, when a good binge might be very soothing, but in the overall scheme there are WAY better ways to spend time. Hang in :)

I have my days of so called "buyers remorse" I am positive it will change soon. No one can prepare you for the "mourning" you will go through. I read about it. Talked about it but in no way can you be prepared to know how to handle the loss of comfort you always had! FOOD!

I have some days I am so very depressed just because I don't know what to do with the time I used to spend comforting myself with food. I miss the socializing over food! I just miss it all! I am told this will soon pass!

I am not trying to discourage you in any way. I just wish someone would have told me how intense the feelings can become! Maybe I would have been "somewhat" prepared!

I am new to this.... 24 days post op! So many of my feelings will work themselves out! Good luck with the surgery :)

On the upside I have lost 25 pounds and that feels great!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
