I recently moved to SC and would love to meet other banders. Have been away from the band life for some time now and am getting ready to get my first fill in quite a while. I am ready to get back on the wagon and would like to speak to others.

Thx, T.

Hi Sunsett:

We live near Charleston (west about 1 hour) in Berkeley County. Nearest largest town is Summerville, SC.

I have been banded since 2001. Have lost 120 lbs and gained all but 40 lbs back. Up and down through the years, mostly distended band - my fault with food and throwing up. I think anyway. Everytime my dr would take out fill and tell me to make an appt for an upper gi to make sure no slippage, I would just shrug him off and leave and return about 6 weeks later to get re-filled again.

Now I have been unfilled for about 3 months and am ready to give it a try again. I have an appt to, once again, get banded in 2 weeks. I only hope I stick to it this time and not overeat. I am my own worst enemy. But thought that maybe I would try the support thing this time and not go it alone like I have since 01.

How about you. Are you enjoying the banding? I am just wondering if maybe I have indeed gotten "slipage". Will speak with new dr. this time and find out. Have you had any complications?

I live in Gaston, SC right outside of Columbia. I am hoping to be able to get banded in March or April of this next year. I am worried about controlliing my food intake and all too. I do know that my doctor (Dr. Strickland) and his group have a great support group and I also talk to some people on ObesityHelp.com for support - I would love to keep in touch with anyone else who will give and need support through our journies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
