Hey girls...just a quick note to say "HI"!!...

I am sorta jealous all of you getting the opportunity to meet face-to-face...makes me wanna come too...LOL

Starting to wish I had gotten that third fill, now...not really extra hungry, but just teeter-tottering with the weight...Oh well...Life is still Good!!!

Priss, glad to hear you are doing well...Billy is doing great...had to Iron 3 pairs of pants this morning for church, because they were all too big...couldn't find a pair he could wear that weren't so baggy on him...I am very proud of him...I told him he is looking like a turtle since he now has a neck...(he doesn't have much hair on his head..keeps it shaved short)...

By the way...another lesson learned this week...don't sit in the sun at a softball game without a cap on your head...it will sunburn the top of your noggin...ouch!!!

You said it, Ouch! I don't like to do that either. Hurts just to think about it. I'm sorry bout you having to Iron so much on a sunday morning, but proud of Mr. Turtle. lol Since you didn't get a fill at your last appointment, can you get one whenever you need one now? That's an interesting question, I'll have to ask that one this morning.

Don't be too jealous..... you really haven't missed anything on my side. Maybe on lo2us or Sugarbear's, but certainly not mine. lol I'm not THAT special. lol lol And, goersh, lady, I ain't all that smart. I'm graduated sixth grade with Jethro Bodine. lol

I gotta git, see yall later! Have a good day vylnn.

Sharon and Shannon, it was nice to meet yall and actually speak to each other. Sorry we didn't get to talk much Shannon. Maybe, next time. Hope all went well at your appointment. Did you decide on Dr. K or Dr. H?

Hello Vlynn, I wish you could have been there too. I enjoyed meeting lo2us and Lisa. I got to visit with Lisa a little more since we got a fill and had our treat and waited around a few minutes. I hope all goes well with you. You have been doing so well I am sure you will continue to lose.

Lisa, I enjoyed our visit and it was nice to put a face to whom I have been chatting with. I loved seeing the picture of your little boy, he is a real cutie. I hope your fill works for you.

Lo2us, likewise I enjoyed meeting you. I hope your visit with the doctor and staff was good for you. Did you set up a date or anything? I am anxious to hear how everything went for you. I hope it was all a good experience. Let us know how it went as soon as you have time to post.

It all went fine. My date is set for 6/6/07 and I was SHOCKED that my goal weight was about 60lbs more than I have anticiapted! Evidentally I really DO have big bones...according to the nurse. LOL! I start my pre-op diet on 5/23....the last week of school....those poor kids! I saw Dr. H. It was a short visit, because I really couldn't think of any questions that I had not asked at the seminar. Later that afternoon, I saw my PCP and he offered to work with the PS doctors to do all my pre-op tests and try to get my insurance to pay for something. I hope they will consider it. He also told me that my sleep test suggested that I get a C-PAP, but he thought I should have the surgery and then be retested after I lose some weight before I purchase it.

It was a LONG day, but a productive one. I hope y'all are feeling good this morning.

Cool, I'm glad you have set a date. And, I'm glad your PCP is willing to work with them to keep some of the costs down for you.

MY goal weight and their goal weight is NOT the same either. They have me weighing 11 pounds more than my goal. 11 pounds is a lot of weight on my short self. lol

Don't worry bout your kids, they will be so excited about school being out, they won't think about what's going on with you. lol They will be ruff and ready to get out of school for the summer.

You just remember, we are here and have been thru what you are about too, so if you need someone to yell at..... I'm here anyway. I can be pretty TUFF when I need to be. lol Who knows, I might yell back at you. lol

Lo2us, Good for you! I am glad everything went good. I guess you will be heading to the store to stock up on sf drinks and Slimfast. If you like cranapple, Walmart brand(Great Value) has a sf that is good. It is those on the go things that you put in a bottled Water. I heard the grape is good, but haven't tried that one. They probably mentioned some drink stuff to you. During the pre-op you can have carbonated drinks (sf of course). I know you will do well. Gotta go for now. I am trying to help my son with a project, due tomorrow of course. I'll check back in later. Congrats on your new journey. We will be here for you.

I'm rarin' to go. I almost would start it now, but I don't know if it would be a good idea.

Lisa, where did you say you found the high protien Slim Fast? I've found I feel better if I take in a little more protien.

What kind of exercise do y'all get? I use to go to Curves and did really well with it, but it's hard to get there now with a 2 year old.

Hi there, ms. lo2us. I know you said you would have it done Monday afternoon... I was the same way, believe me. I found the Slimfast at Walmart. I only found it a couple of times. It's new and I think their distribution is not so great yet. I would think you should be able to find it where fine diet products are sold. lol If you don't find it and decide to get the Protein Powder to supplement, don't get the SOY Protein. Get whey. Whey is much better for you. And like I said, I tried the soy and just about ate the house down every time I tried it. I haven't been brave enough to try the whey yet. I was just trying to be cost effective when I bought the soy.

Exercise..... I walk at least 5 days a week, sometimes 6. At least 1 mile, sometimes more. And I use my ball and bands when I get the chance. Time is of the essence around here since baseball season started, so I haven't been as dedicated with the ball as I have with my walking. I like getting outside and walking. That's my quiet time and you know we all need that sometimes.

I have restriction this morning!!!!! I hope this fill is THE good one. food just don't look good right now. That's cool !!! Never thought I would sayy that. Lost 3 pounds since monday (WATER) but it looks good on the scales to me. I don't think it's legal to change the ticker just yet, so I 'm not.

lisa

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
