Texarkana Bandsters

I forgot to mention earlier that I did go and Dr. K unfilled me a "smidge" so far so good. No PB's today. Here it is 3:15 a.m. and I am wide awake. Been up since 1:30 a.m. Gonna be a looooong day.

Plain, congrats on the first fill. I was like you, waiting in there for that fill. Nothing to it...I was shocked. I have had 8 ! When was your surgery date? I forgot. You may or may not notice any difference when you get back to foods. They probably told you liquids the first day and mushies the second. Don't let it discourage you if you don't. Everybody's band may fit differently in the beginning. The size of your stomach opening may be smaller or maybe larger than others. So it takes some several fills before they notice anything, some notice immediately. We are all different. A lot of us here have the old style band, all of you new commers have the new one. That is probably a factor too. Good luck and take care of your band. You are on a journey to a healthier you.

What is the difference between the old style band and the new style band? I was banded 10-10-07 Do I have a new style?

You probably have the new and improved band, Arkie. I think it has something to do with tiny ridges along the inside of the band to help grip and prevent slippage. And I read something somewhere that they already have a small amount of saline in them. THAT POSSIBLY COULD BE WRONG, SO DON'T QUOTE, K? Discuss it with the Docs, they can tell you for sure. I have seen the old style and even then I saw it once before I had mine placed. You know how they have to improve on everything. Cars, phones, klennex. Everything is new and improved. lol

Hello everyone, hope all of you are doing well....

Lisa...I did what you are doing not too long ago and found that I could eat better later in the day than I could in the mornings to mid afternoon...Don't know why that is, but that is what I noticed...

When I was TOO TIGHT, chips and crackers became my friends because I could get those down easier...NOT GOOD, I know, but I was hungry...If you find yourself relying on those things, you are TOO tight...From experience, don't think that being tighter will help you lose...I tried to tough it out and it made me miserable...now I find it hard to stay in the box, because I went too long not eating anything...it's nice to be able to eat something, so now I find myself not worrying about what I am eating...not gaining, but just enjoying my food for a change...Hope this doesn't sound redundant...just don't want any of you to get TOO tight...it's not fun!! I kept mine for 8weeks thinking I could work through it...I know now what starving children in Africa go through...

Lisa or Hippmom,

I looked on Noscales and saw that our meeting for this month has been cancelled again. Has anyone said why?

Hope everyone is fine. Still no restriction, but I haven't gained nor have I lost.

Lisa, I had trouble getting on too. I think that happens every time they change or update the site. I think I am doing better, but still have to be careful or I'll PB. Not as much as before. Like you, I get in too big a hurry sometimes. I think I have lost a pound or two, maybe. Not weighing for a few days. Take care everyone.

Let's send Mrs. Betty an e-mail and ask WHY??? Jamie and her sister were supposed to be taking over our group. The last meeting we had (January) they told us that. Guess we could have one without them somewhere.

Thanks Lynn for the advice. I talked to Angie at PS and I think I will try it a couple more days and see. I haven't gotten sick since Sunday. I have eaten better food this week than last week. Last week was TOM and that has a lot to do with my tightness. We'll see how it goes this weekend and if I still can't eat right then I promise to go see the docs!

Yall have a good day. Be safe and stay in the BOX!

Good morning all,

Lisa, what is Betty's email address. I will email her and ask and post when I hear from her. Glad that everything is going good for you.

Lisa, I'm trying hard to stay in the box, but with all the rain lately, I'm staying in the boat.

Hello Everyone~ Didn't mean to stay away for so long! I haven't even been to see Dr.K in 2 month's. We've had a new grandson, who's healthy as can be! I've been sick with sinus, etc. My hubby has been off work for 2 months, sick, in the hospital, then back in the hospital. He had gallbladder removal and hiatal hernia repair where they wrapped part of his esophagus with part of his stomach. Now it's just like he lapband too. He has a hard time swallowing anything and has to eat like me. I have not gained or lost anything to speak of. Pretty disappointed in myself. I am not hungry and my last fill gave me pretty good restriction. For the life of me, I cannot kick the sugar habit. I am addicted and I don't know HOW to beat this. I really need a support group! I've missed ya'll.

I'm right there with on the sugar, Julie. I do know that once you can get off it, it's not so hard to stay off it, but once you get off it again, it's harder to get off it the 2nd time, at least for me anyway!

Here's a question for all y'all: Have you noticed that you crave foods you weren't particularly attracted to before now that you're banded? I crave pecans and chocolate, actually now I'm a chocaholic now and I didn't even really care about it before surgery!

Yeah I know what you mean...I'm craving meat and cheese right now!!!

It's been about 2 weeks since I've been on here, but finally got to eat some mashed potatoes and oatmeal. Looking forward to the chicken salad and slightly "mushy" stuff in 5 days.

:cursing: 30lbs lost, 66lbs to go

hogg you are doing so good!!!!

i am a chocoaholic now and before!!! no matter how tight i am chocolate slides right down, but right now i am very tight and i am never hungry so the amount of chocolate i eat is much less than in the past!!!!YEH if i eat the hard protien stuff i don't have room for chocolate so i try to things like cheese or cottage cheese or shaved ham when i get home from work so i don't graze all nite like i did before the last fill. it takes very little to fill me up these days i have to be real careful to not push it to the limit when i eat, but if i just don't try last one more bite i am ok. this is the first time i have actually lost at least a pound a week since my last fill. since feb the 25 i have lost 8-10 lbs. and i have not change the things i eat but i am eating very little. still getting enough calories because of the chocolate and i have not lost my hair!!!YEH

i had set my goal to lose 77 lbs and i only have around 20 more to get to that goal, but my dh took some pic of the kids and i last weekend and i think i will need to lose more than 20 unless things really change with that last 20. i think i will always have a big belly and ps is not in my future because of the $$$ i was self pay for the band and really cant justified spending more $$$ on plastics for an old lady like me.

i started at a tight 24 and can now wear a slightly toght 16 or loose 18. i would like to be loose 16 or slightly tight 14. so i will see what the next 20 lbs bring.

Hello everybody.

Dr. Keilin and I have the weekend off; she got me to join her to come to Dallas as she attends a knitting convention. Hey it could be worse, there are a lot worse addictions and more expensive hobbies that one's wife can have....

(I for myself will spend time in the bookstores and computer and electronics stores.)

Checking the thread I see a few people have mentioned cravings and how to deal with them.

Physicians have learned that for some people onset of cravings, especially for carbohydrates (e.g Snacks, chocolate, etc.) may be brought on by having a low Protein intake. I recently found a scientific article that reported that intake of a protein meal decreases the level of ghrelin in your body. (Ghrelin is a hormone that appears to correspond with hunger; the higher the ghrelin level in your body, presuambly the more hunger you sense.)

We recommend ensuring that you are taking in adequate protein. Many of our patients are utilizing the protein supplements from Bariatric Advantage. (Dr. Keilin and I buy them too.) My wife's favorite is the Profect Protein Drink that comes in the test tube looking container. I stick with the powders and add them to skim milk. Check out the 'estore' on Lap Band Surgery Texarkana- Serving Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana (weird how that title comes up; its www dot noscales dot com )

Regarding the cancelled Mt Pleasant support group:

Attendance has been so low that it got to the point that it was unfair for Dr. Keilin and I to ask our staff to go the meetings. For the last meeting that was held, only five people showed up

We may restart the Mt. Pleasant support group meetings again in the future if we can get a higher level of attendance, but for now we encourage people to attend either the support group in Texarkana or in Mt. Pleasant.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
