Never too late?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning everyone! I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that is over 50 that has or is in the process of being sleeved? I see all the 20 & 30 year olds on here and I never though of my self as too old but the thought is crossing my mind. I believe it is never too late for anything but ....

I am 55 and 4months post op.. I do wish I had done this 20 years ago, but for me to have a good chance at health for the rest of my life, I had to do this. I am glad I did.. I have lost total 70 lbs and feel so much better.. I have even started trying to Zumba.. Quality of life is what it is all about :)

I had just turned 46 when I was sleeved back in Dec. I thought I might be too old to get sleeved, but the alternatives was to live a shorter life and have a lower quality of life. I knew that I couldn't keep on going the way things were and at this point in my life, if I hadn't lost the weight on my own, I needed help.

I just turned 53 when I had my surgery in April 12. I am down 74lb and I have just had a month stall. It is coming off slow but sure and that is fine by me. My goal is 100lb loss and I reckon it is going to take another 6 months.

Closer to 56 than 55 now and would do it even if I was over 60. Like others I wish I would have done it years ago and DEFINITELY instead of years with the lapband

I never gave my age (49) a second thought when I was making the decision to do this. Hey, just like the 20 year olds have their whole life in front of them, so do we!! I mean, I still have the whole REST OF MY LIFE in front of me. That is actually how I made the decision -- I felt like if I wanted to make the most of the rest of my life I HAD to do it.

I wish the sleeve would have been around 20 or 30 years ago.....

Theres a bunch of us over 50 and over 60! I was sleeved less than two weeks ago on my 60 birthday! Boy do i have a fabulous summer planned! I had a very easy time in surgery and now recovery! I have been significantly overweight since childhood so have no idea what i will look like as a normal weight person. I am expecting a face full of wrinkles but i dont care! Give me a body that can get in a kayak or hike without feeling like death is emminent and i will be a happy camper!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
