How about coconut flavoring in the vanilla. I know coconut is off limits but what about flavoring/oil?

We have a lot in common. The pain will get better. We have to remember we've had major surgery! I too am looking forward to being heathy' date=' have an extremely supportive husband and I turned 60 on 2/8. Sleeved on Valentines Day. I will offer you the same birthday wish my son wrote in his birthday card to me...

"Here's to believing that 60 will be even better than 50!" <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Hope I'm the first to say Happy 60th Birthday (in May)![/quote']

You are the first to say Happy 60th Birthday! Thank you. I like the thought that 60 will be better than 50. I really want my health to improve. I have developed so many health issues and that makes it difficult to go anywhere for a weekend. I am feeling better today, a little more energy. My back still hurts but not as badly as it did yesterday. Hoping for good news tomorrow from surgeon.

My nurse that is my program coordinator through the insurance called to check in today and was pleased.

So, surgery is Thursday...I woke up this morning, and my little boy crawled into my bed- and suddenly I had this overwhelming terror of something going wrong in surgery. I thought- my God, I don't want to die having an elective surgery. I know the risks are low- but it's still surgery. I'm sort of having a hard time shaking it. (Sorry for the heavy subject matter-lol).

For the life of me, I can not figure out why Insurance companies consder Bariatric surgery elective. Breast implants and face lifts are elective surgery (in my book.)

Speaking stricky for myself, the pre-op anxiety was worse for my wife. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You are doing the rght thing for the right reasons. What could possibly happen if you don't take care is potentially much worse.

I was so worried about this. I have a 2 and 3 year old and couldn't help but think of the worse case. I am so glad I did this. I am 3 weeks post op and already they are getting their mom back. It wasn't fair to them to have a mom who couldn't keep up.

My surgeon doesn't limit caffeine--it seems like most other surgeons do?

They do since its a diuretic. ... a lot of caffeine will dehydrate you is why they don't really want you drinking it.

I went out today and finished up my clothes shopping for work. I went to Salvation Army today and got 10 pairs of pants for 5.00 (usc). They were actually 49 cents each. I got some of the sizes I was missing. So if they dont fit or whatever..... I'm out 50 cents each lol

Hi I did my surgery on the 8th of feb since that date I've been on a liquid only diet. Today had the right to finally eat some mashed food and it felt great I immediately took lentil Soup and hummus tapas since my doctor forbids me to take any Protein Shake coz it won't help lose weight fast. He said they contain lots of calories.... In this forum I noticed that all of u disagree. Anyways one week after the surgery I went to a dietation and she gave me a diet to follow that organises the amount of carbs dairy products veggies and fruits and Protein that I should take daily so if anyone is interested on this diet will share it. Owwww NB: I lost 10 kg since the surgery and the only sport I was doing was walking for only 40 min on the coast :) I do t believe in treadmill lol and closed areas to do sports .... Good luck everyone. Dima from Beirut city

Hi all' date='

I was sleeved on 2/22, spent one night in the hispital and am home. I have been able to distinguish gas pain from the surgery pain. The gas pain is sharper, as it comes and goes The surgery pain is simply the feeling of tightness. My surgeon described the sleeve discomfort perfectly. he said the sensation is similar to putting on brand new leather shoes. There is limited flexibility and a feeling of tightness. My diet consists of Protein Shakes, non fat yogurt and sugar-free Popsicle s. I need to walk more and drink more Water.< /p>

I would appreciate any/all advice for the following questions:

1. How do we deal with work clothes? It's too expensive to buy new clothes every time we lose 10 pounds. I work in an office, so sweats are not an option.

2. Juicer preference. There is a ton of information on the Magic Bullet and Ninja. Do you use either? which do you prefer? Why?

3. What is your most comfortable sleeping position. Trying to get comfortable isn't easy.

Thanks in advance![/quote']

Hi! Glad you are doing well. i was sleeved 2/19 and tomorrow is folow up with my surgeon! If you have a Sam's they have ECO flavored water that is good and I am drinking Vitamin zero water.

1) if you are in an area that has consignment shops, goodwill, salvation army stores. I have to check my closet to see if I have anything to wear tomorrow. LOL! Check for clearance ads.

2) I have a ninja, did not like magic bullet and we opted for the Nutri Bullet. I purchased mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond and if you ever shop there or sign up to receive you can get 20% off. With the discount I paid $79.99 and free shipping since they were out. We purchased because of references of people who use it regularly (sister & my assistant at work). My husband is using the bullet every day and it does a good job.

3) I have slept mostly on my back but a couple of times I rolled over on my side during the night.

Hope this helps and congratulations on your new journey!

I am amazed by how much more I can drink now. I could barely get in an ounce in an hour at first. Now I can sip 8 ounces without a problem. Makes getting in fluids easier!

Try some G2 or some other juice with some low carbs and try drinking 1 oz every 15min. that's what my MD has me doing. The grape G2 has been my stand by when I didn't want anything else.

I agree. Sine life Water is helpful. Thinned out low fat Soup maybe

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
