FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Guilty to say, I'm feeling kind of blah and sometimes paranoid. Sleeved on the 13th and the stomach part went well, no nausea. Slow going getting in the liquids. But I had the worst of the Constipation angle. (Suggest anyone going in, if you were bound up from the shakes pre-op get on the stool softener the minute you get homIe.) Sorry for gross out factor. Impacted. So stool softener, Miralax, suppository, and mineral oil enema. Pressure and pain on the stomach. Made it through the humiliation onto sharp pain at drain site and all the way down to end of drain. Bad gas pains followed and are just now easing up. Tired of all this. Everyone is excited and I should be too. Down 30 lbs. But I feel like Private Benjamin. "I just want to be normal!"

I had a lot of gas and constipation also. Was slow about passing gas in hospital so they gave me Milk of Magnesia (yuck!!) 5th day post op finally used suppository. Much better today. Its a terrible subject but I have had problems all my life. Was hoping it would get better not worse.

I was sleeved on February 5 and after 2 weeks I was fine and experienced no pain with it. I would say your body will let you know if it's not time

Oh no! My body says its time!!! (:

Hello all, so nice to meet and exchange issues and ideas from people going through it about the same time.

I was sleeved on 2/12, I have a total weigh loss of 33lbs from 2wk post op diet to now, 2/24.

What an amazing experience this has been; I have had little to no pain. I love my Unjury Protein Powder. It has allowed me to be more flexible with my meals. I don't have the Lactose problems I had with other products. And because it is a powder and not a ready mix drink I can get all my Protein needs in 4-6 ounces of the beverage of my choice.

My only problem has been getting all my other medication down, having difficulty swallowing. I tried crushing but it gave me instant diariah

My sleeve date was 2/19/13. I came home on Thursday, 2/21. I do not remember much of Tuesday due to morphine pump. I had lost a few pounds pre-op and was pleased with my weigh-in at hospital. I was on IV's until check-out on Thursday and had Fluid gain which was a little bit of a downer but as my friend told me, do not weigh as frequently but Today, Sunday the 24th I weighed (think Sunday will be my weigh day) and the fluid has come off plus two pounds.

I am pleased and looking forward to being healthy. I follow up with the surgeon on Tuesday the 26th. My husband is so supportive, taking great care of me.

I too am struggling with pain. But I know it will get better. I have my 60th birthday in May and I hope I am well on my way! I will be happy if I can lose two pounds a week (more than I have ever lost consistently).

Sorry I rambled on but I am wishing all of you wonderful success in this new life!

I'm having a lot of soreness right above my main incision. Feels like it is inside in the muscle. Last night it bothered me so much it hurt to press on it. Just seems strange the pain mostly hit yesterday, almost 2 weeks post op.

The only thing I can think of having caused it is sitting a little hunched over while getting a mani pedi yesterday afternoon. I tried varying my position here and there. Seems right after I left the salon it started hurting.

Anyone else as far out after surgery as me experience any of the same?

Hi guys! Day 8 has been hard for me. Sharp pain in the belly button area' date=' cant stand up straight without pain. Anyone else experiencing this?[/quote']

I have had the same issue, bery little pain in belly button but my backk is very sore and that makes it difficult getting up and down. It takes a while to be able to stand up straight. I see my doctor Tuesday and plan on asking him about this if it is not completely improved.

My back was so extremely sore 1 day post op until the other day. The pain has subsided a lot!

Bored with chocolate & vanilla? I sure am!

I just made a chocolate Protein Shake but added a tablespoon of reduced fat Peanut Butter (8 g protein) before I blended it in my Ninja. Oh, yum!!! Can you say Reeses Peanut Butter Cup?

Three weeks on "full liquids" plus 3 more to go! I have got to find some ways to dress these shakes up!

Anyone else have some ideas to change up these chocolate & vanilla Protein Shakes? Has anyone tried a drop or two of peppermint oil? How about instant coffee for a mocha flavor?

We have a lot in common. The pain will get better. We have to remember we've had major surgery! I too am looking forward to being heathy, have an extremely supportive husband and I turned 60 on 2/8. Sleeved on Valentines Day. I will offer you the same birthday wish my son wrote in his birthday card to me...

"Here's to believing that 60 will be even better than 50!" ;)

Hope I'm the first to say Happy 60th Birthday (in May)!

My surgeon always calls in the post op meds prior to surgery. He says he does not want his patients having to go out to get them after surgery.

Oops. I just noticed I misread your question. I had pain meds (lortab), nausea meds (phenergan) and nexium as my post op meds. I then added a sugar free Fiber supplement. Also, Vitamins twice a day and Calcium. I think that is fairly common amongst most new sleevers.

Don't be nervous! I believe the raglan is for nausea as well. The first day I was completely out of it all day between the anesthesia and the pain meds. Second day was much better I was walking and moving, it really helps with the gas pains! I have pain meds so I really only took them before I went to sleep since we all know how horrible hospital sleep is. I would double check with the Morton because I know they want us off blood thinners. You will do fine though! Just make sure to move as much as you can, sometimes it's even more comfortable then laying in that bed all day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
