FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

eggs is one...1st time I pureed them after scrambling them. Then had a Breakfast bowls with eggs and sausage etc. And since then.... thought of eggs makes me want to puke.

Hamburger- made meatloaf and pureed that.... now thought and smell of meatloaf make me want to vomit.

Those are the ones I can think of off hand.

Yeah pureed meat and eggs does not sound very good. :(

Just calculated my out of pocket expenses so far (original MD, RD, stress echo, endo/colo, sleep study & CPAP, psych eval, pre surgery fees to surgeon & hosp). I'm 8 days post-op and have shelled out $4489 so far. Thank God for my insurance! I can't imagine what it would be to have this done locally (NC, urban) without it! I am claiming it all on my taxes plus the mileage!

Oh well, my weight has been an issue for 50 years, so I have probably spent that much or more on Weight Watchers (multiple times), Medifast, Phen-fen, Curves, Gold's gym, etc. (you get the idea)! I still have a gym membership, but now I have added the LAST tool that I'm going to use to conquer this problem, finally at age 60!

It's ridiculous how much we have spent on fads, isn't it? On the bright side you're doing it now!

The pain I have is not gas... I have gas in my shoulders and chest. The burning pain is right on the stitchs. I also have big bruises on the stitches. I'm wondering if I should call the doc.

I too had big bruises around mine. Especially my main one and they told me it was from going in and out of them and tugging but said they looked fine. I dont have pain any more after 8 days EXCEPT that main one is still sore

So glad for this forum!!

I was sleeved on February 4, 2013 and I am doing pretty good, if i say so myself. I about 3 weeks post surgery and I don't have any huge complaints. My presurgery weight was 417lbs and 1 week post my first doctor's visit I am 382lbs. I've lost about 35lbs...yay!!! I was so happy when I got on the scale because I haven't been under 400lbs in over 3 years. So if anyone asked me if I have any regrets about getting the sleeve...the answer would be a huge resounding NO!!!! I feel like I have a fresh start and thats just plain wonderful!!!

I have 6 weeks off of work, so I gave myself a whole lot of time to recover (I do alot of walking at work and I wanted to be sure I was able to do that). I probably won't need the whole 6 weeks, but I'm glad to have it anyway.

I haven't had much pain since I've come home. I have some pressure when I over

-do-it, but other than that...It's all good. Like most others, I'm pretty tired of the liquid diet and tired of eating broth....but it' could be much worse :) . I'm not big on sweets (I never really was) so the sweet Protein Shakes are becoming a bit tiresom. I can't get the whole thing down, I've been sipping on one shake for 3 days. But I'm definitly working one it. Trying to get my walking in as much as possible.

So glad for this forum and anyone who could provide any helpful advice about anything...I'm open!

Thanks!!!

Are any of you guys on this horrible lovenox shots? I have to have them twice daily for seven days to prevent blood clots..... They hurt soooo much :( Not the needle but the medicine.... Ugh!

I'm on the Lovenox and I agree I'm so tired of the needle. I try to get the shot over with in the morning. But I agree with you, it's not something that I look forward to (espcially since I really don't like needles).

Surgery date was the 14th. I am supposed to get down 48 oz of liquids and 40 grams of Protein. There is absolutely no way. It's 5pm and I have only managed 10 oz of Water and 3 oz of Isopure. I keep getting really sharp pains across my abdomen and up into my chest' date=' last all but a few seconds. Other than that the belly pain is at a 4 inbetween lortab doses. @TStorm yes I have had diarrhea as well. So embarrassed, thought I was only passing gas and had to go change. My 18 yo daughter will never let me live that down. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />[/quote']

My surgery date was the 19 th. finally at three days postop, the gas spasms are beginning to subside, but they were pretty bad for a while. I, too had the " liquid gas " phenomenon! Embarrassing but at the same time I was relieved to finally pass gas and move my bowels at once!

Well I had my surgery on February 20, 2013. Surgery was a great success, woke up in minimal pain. Used my handy little pump whenever I felt discomfort. Couldn't sleep in the hospital due to being checked on and woken every hour. I was discharged the following day and have tolerated Water and broth quite well. This morning I woke up and made my Protein Shake first thing to get down and started drinking water. Little bit of soreness but hardly worth taking pain medicine for. Took my Multivitamin and B-12, B-1 and antacid the Doctor prescribed. Now I am doing a bit of walking around the house. I love my sleeve and am so thankful I have no complaints! oh and btw, I have not had any insulin since yesterday morning 2 units and that's all. I was taking 100 units of insulin per day 50 in the am and 50 in the pm previous to my surgery. I am praying that this is an end to my diabetes, any one else out there like this?

Started experimenting a bit w/ food. Had some scrambled eggs for breakfast and chicken Soup for lunch. Takes a short forever to eat and the restriction is there after just a few small bites. Just about sick of Protein Shakes right now, but I can't get 60g of Protein in just yet w/ food. Yes, my right side incision still hurts but next thursday is my 2 wk post op, so hopefully that will go well.

How is everyone's weight loss going? I lost 18 lbs of Fluid the first few days (from IV in the hospital), then 10 more pounds by 10 days out. Now, I'm 16 days out and the scale hasn't moved in 6 days. I'm still happy with my net weight loss but wonder what else I could be doing.

I'm eating about 400-600 calories a day, getting in all of my fluid (at least 64-72 oz of Water plus Soup, tea and other fluid), walking about 20-30 minutes/day (still a little weak but feeling so much better on thin purees than full liquid), and making sure I get at least 60 g of Protein.< /p>

I know you shouldn't compare yourself to others, but when I see people losing 30 or more pounds in the same time frame, it makes me wonder what this journey will be like for me. I'm hypothyroid secondary to pituitary issues, but I started at a higher BMI so thought for at least the first couple of months, I would see pretty good weight loss.

Planning to up my exercise starting this weekend. I was told I can't do water aerobics for 6 weeks but will start pool walking in addition to regular walking. Then adding the exercise bike and light strength training at 6 weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
