I am 4 weeks now after surgery and feeling quite well. I wanna start doing some light lifting at the gym. Does anyone think that's too soon? Has anyone went back to light lifting this soon, and if so how did u feel?

I was told nothing over 10 pounds for 6 weeks, 20 pounds for 8 weeks..... after that do as much as your body can handle.... but increase slowly...it takes a LOT of energy to power lift and at that early out we arent eating enough calories to support it in most cases.... I didnt start HEAVY lifting until over 3 months out....

I am five days out and have a 20 lb baby. I am very worried about lifting him but I don't have any choice. I am scared that I am going to cause myself complications. It is frustrating to say the least. I wasn't told that I couldn't lift anything over ten lbs prior to surgery, found out two days before. Btw... I was told 10 lbs for two weeks and then ease in slowly. Ugh. so far no problem....

I started doing VERY light lifting at the gym around 4-5 weeks. I'm talking so I light I couldn't really even feel the weight, just to get some form and stretching back. I did this for about two weeks, then gradually added back a little weight each week or so. But I had a pretty easy recovery from the surgery, so I would definitely go with your Drs advice.

i stayed away from the free weights and doing squats or lunges for about 6 weeks. I did do curls, pull downs and flys on the machines. Didn't seem to be a problem. Now I am full on back.

I'm 8 weeks post op. I started with 5 pound weights around 5 weeks I think, and now I'm at 10 pound weights. I also used weight machines one night, not thinking about the weight limit (my doctor didn't tell me how long I had to weight, just said avoid heavy lifting for a few weeks). So I've done well over 10 pounds on my arms and legs, but that was just one short period of time.

Definitely ask your surgeon/doctor if you can.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
