Vegetables

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 8 weeks post op. I saw that people say they can't have celery because of the stringiness. Tonight, I had 2 pieces and I was fine. I find that I am getting so sick of eating beef chili, baked chicken, fish, canned tuna/chicken, lunch meat, turkey burgers/meatballs, and cheese/cheese wedges. I never thought I'd miss veggies as much as I do. (I'm almost tempted to drink two Protein shakes a day and snack on veggies in between lol).

I was wondering when did you start incorporating veggies into your diet, specifically, low carb ones? When were you cleared for veggies? Unfortunately, my NUT has left the my surgeon's office, and they're working without one until further notice so I have no one to contact.

I know for me, I can eat salad, but fruits are a no-go because of the carbs. I miss celery, broccoli, green Beans, cabbage, cucumbers, etc.!!

Cleared for veggies pureed with meat up till 6 weeks then unpureed from 6 weeks out. Personally i did not puree my food - i just chewed really well in tiny bites. I have no problems with any raw veg (even celery). I have no carb restrictions (I didnt pay 17k to be on the Atkins diet). I am allowed 1 small piece of fruit a day if I want it :)

I was cleared at 6 weeks out. I add fruit and veggies to my diet because i believe that is very important. I do fine with pretty much all kinds. :) I to don't have carb restrictions, but i glance at carbs and try to stay away from to many processed things.

I wasn't cleared for fresh fruits and vegetables until 12 weeks.

Anything that was cooked until it was soft and I chewed well was ok after 8 weeks. I recall cooking a butternut squash in the oven that was to die for...so soft and warm and delicious.

Thanks for the tips! I guess it's gonna be trial and error, cooking until soft, and chewing really well.

2 weeks out I was cleared with the caveat that different people handle things differently. For example I had no problem eating raw carrots instead of boiling them to mush like I was told most people have to. I haven't tried celery yet even though I'm 3 months out but I probably should.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
