I had my seminar the 9th of Feb.. before the seminar all I could think of is the surgery.. and the emotions of it.. but since I sent off my paperwork for a consult reality set in.. now I'm more worried about sagging skin and being strong enough to stick with it..I know a lot of emotions go thru ur head.. so I guess my question is... I'm 249.. will I have major sagging skin on my stomach? I really shouldn't care cause I'm changing my life for the better.. but I'm still curious.. sorry if this is the wrong thread.. thanks for listening..

Depends on genetics, how fast you lose, your collagen supply in your skin, how much weight you are going to lose, sun exposure on skin...there are a ton of things that affect skin and elasticity....no one can predict, it is different for everyone.

It's different for everyone. The last time I lost about 100 pounds (age 20-22) there was no loose skin. After a rapid 30-pound loss it slowed to 1 pound per week. Now that I am older and my skin has been forced to support even more excess weight for several years, I expect to have some loose skin in areas with significant stretch marks and fat folds/wrinkles. A previous coworker confided that she really wishes she had saved up for skin removal following RNY. If loose skin is of concern to you, start saving up. If it turns out after a couple years your skin bounces back, you can spend that money on something else nice!

Like the other posters have said, you just can't tell.

Maybe cosmetic surgery might be an option down the track, who knows.

It also depends on your circumstances as well. My wife, who is proportionate, has a patch of wrinkly skin on her abdomen from when she was pregnant with our twins. She's not interested in having surgery to fix it. She wears one piece swim suites and nobody really knows. It doesn't bother me, it's a symptom of having two beautiful healthy daughters and I really couldn't find my wife more attractive.

I think loose skin from WLS is the same thing, depending on your circumstances. If there is any it is a symptom of all the hard work you've done. And what a great problem to have.

It really is a first world problem when you think about it - "I've lost a terrific amount of weight, I'm now ridiculously healthy and look 10 years younger, but I have this loose skin, poor me!!" :P:) :)

Good luck. Jump one hurdle at a time. The loose skin one is way down the road, if at all.

It's normal for it to be a bit of an emotional roller coaster :)

I have had the same fears, I have been worried about how I will look with loose skin or deflated boobs after the weight comes off....I have finally decided that it can't look any worse than having the fat under my skin looks now.

Yeah.. after I thought about it.. I thought the same thing.. I walked around for 38 years being 100 pounds over weight.. and now I'm worried about a fat pouch.. big deal.. they say u get emotional and u think of all kinds of stuff.. I guess I thought it would be later on in the game.. geez..

This was a hard thing for me to digest, I vented to my wife for about 2 hours over this, the whole time she just listened, and then said "is getting your life back, losing the weight, advancing in your career really worth all of this worry over loose skin?" I went from 464 to 350 a few years back and didn't have any issues. I went from 350 to 301 (lowest adult weight) and no problems, back to 390, then to 350 again, no problems, but I'm expecting some loose skin, it just isn't going to get the best of me.

I thought I was the only one with the loose skin hang up, glad to see I am not.

@MrsRed I am 39 and 100 lbs overweight my whole adult life too.

I think it must have something to do with mourning the loss of our body image.

I was worried about skin, too, then I remembered that my husband is the only person that will ever see it if I have excess tummy skin or even if I get saggy boobs. Everyone else will just see a wicked hot skinny chick.

My arms might be a problem, though, so I'll either forgo sleeveless tops or maybe save up for some plastics there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
