Band to sleeve revision cost

Recommended Posts

Anyone have an estimate of the cost for band to sleeve revision. I went through Dr. Wilkenfeld at True Results in Houston for my band and am going to talk to him tomorrow about revision. I am self pay.

I've heard anywhere from 15k-26k.

If you do it in 2 procedures, it'll cost probably 3k more.

I'm self pay as well, makes me nervous!

I'm sorry to say this but I have Kaiser Permanente and I got my Lapband removed for free with everything covered. I got the sleeve a year later and paid nothing as well. In 2008 I got the band done in Mexico when I was uninsured an paid $6500 for a torture device so I know the pain of self-pay. You don't have insurance that covers it??

My insurance has an exclusion for any type of WLS. I am seeing a different surgeon next week as my current surgeon doesn't want to really bother with you after he has made his money.

I highly recommend looking into Mexico as an option. Not only because of price, but mostly because of the level of care. If you were to choose one of the top surgeons in Mexico, I am convinced, you would receive superior care to what most American providers give. Maybe I'm a bit partial, but my dad was sleeved Monday, and though I've heard the stories before, I find it unbelievable the way so many American doctors operate.

I'm currently in Mexico recovering from revision surgery on Monday. In comparison I'm getting significant more care here and it was over 12k less. My doc who did my band in southern california was going to be over 21k Doc here in mexico has Surgeon of Excellence credentials and Is an International Center of Excellence with a lot of respect among the entire international bariatric community.

These are not little back-ally facilities.

I am 2 weeks post op, band to sleeve revision, I paid $5,600 in Mexico. It covered 3 nights in hotel and 2 nights in hospital. Also, transportation to and from San Diego.

Good luck to you!

Jana, sleeved 1/31/13

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
