Tylenol (acetaminophen) is different than Advil (ibuprofen). If you weren't given any restrictions about ibuprofen, then I'd imagine it's fine. There are some drugs (HBP meds come to mind) that you shouldn't take ibuprofen with, and it tends to be a little harsher on the stomach.

No NSAIDS which is ibuprofen and naprosyn (advil or aleve). Why?? It thins the blood and is known to cause GI bleeds related to ulcers. Stick to tylenol or as your MD recommends. Some suggest if you must take with antacid or PPI.

Isn't the no NSAIDS rule for Gastric bypass patients? I heard that rule doesn't apply to sleevers. I took 2 advils before my Brazilian wax appt about 2 weeks ago lol. A lot of people get the sleeve so that they can continue taking NSAIDS. I hate pills so that was my first time taking any meds since surgery.

7 months out and I have been taking aleve and ibuprofen regularly for inflammation pain. I waited until 6 months on my dr's recommendation. It does help alot better for certain pain that tylenol will not touch. Ok so far.

I am almost 10 weeks out, and I take ibuprophen. My doc cleared me to take it at about 8 weeks. It was one of the major reasons I didn't want the RNY - those patients can never take it due to risk of ulcers at the anastomosis site. However, I would not take it until your doc says to.

My Doctor says no ibuprofen, NEVER! I would seriously think about the risk if you are taking it, it's not worth a bleeding Ulcer.

For some of us, no NSAIDS isn't a realistic future. I am taking indomethecin, which is much more heavy duty than Advil. Without it, I wouldn't be physically functioning right now. If your doctor and surgeon clear it, go for it.

Responsible, occasional use will not give you an ulcer if you're cleared to do so.

I would imagine the reason they don't want you to take ibuprofen is because it is very important to eat when you take them, so as to coat your stomach. I have a friend who didnt do this and she developed an ulcer. We aren't supposed to drink while we eat so trying to get down a tablet with no Water for me would be hard. If you are taking ibuprofen please at least take it with milk. You need something to coat/protect your stomach :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
