Bananas in protein shake?

Recommended Posts

Hi all I was sleeves 1/23/13 and am in puréed stage. I find the only way I can get in all my Protein is to mix my Protein Shake with a banana to balance it out and add some 'real food' taste. I realize this is a good bit of carbs added, esp when I have two shakes in a day. Is this too many carbs? My nut gave me no carb recommendations so asking y'all. I 'eat' about 600 calories a day and average 30g sugar. Thoughts? Thanks!

My doctor told me that as long as we not putting sugar or fat in it, we really shouldn't be able to consume enough carbs to worry about it. He also said that mashed potatoes and chicken noodle Soup are ok when you go to soft foods because again, you won't be able to consume enough to really worry about it.

My carb restrictions are no more than 100g a day. A whole banana might be a bit much, but even on pre-op I was allowed to add about 1/4 c of banana to my shakes.< /p>

I would say if your counting your carbs then just add it to your count!! Banana's are higher in carbs but do still have lots of good benefits in them too. Enjoy ;) (love banana's too!)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
