It took awhile for me to get back on the elliptical. Staples had to come out and most incisions had to heal up. The bouncing around hurt. I did a fair amount on the treadmill, and in about a month the elliptical wasn't a problem. I'm on it now, three days a week, the other 2 I'm on the treadmill.

I was able to do walking at an easy pace the first week. As far as actual heavy cardio exercise, I had to wait six weeks.

I was about 2 months before I was allowed on the eliptical and it was just at 5 minutes at a time. Good luck!

I waited 5 weeks before getting on the elliptical. Lots and lots of different types of walking before then. I was walking the same day I came home from the hospital. Not more then a quarter mile, but at least it was a start. I remember needing to increase my O2 capacity with the little breathing applicator in order to gain strength for walking further. By the end of the month, I was walking 5 miles a day in addition to hills.

How do you find energy to exercise? I'm struggling at 3 weeks post op to try to get in 600 calories. I'm encouraged to hear that so many are able to exercise at this point.

At 3 weeks I did not have a lot of energy. Enough for walking my dog for a few miles a day. I felt really confident about my recovery and tried a hard hike (mount index serene lake in WA cascades) around that time. I felt so dehydrated afterwards when I ran out of Water at the top of the hike. Don't do this amount of exertion at 3 weeks. Felt like going to the ER. Recovered after hydrating at the car(60 oz as we drove home). Still took a few days before feeling better. Seven months out now and I could probably easily do the hike now that I am in really good shape and have a healthy diet. Still would take extra Water though.

That's great that you were able to do that. I'm building up to it slowly. I want to get out of this starvation stall and kick start my metabolism. Today was my first full day back to work and then I came home and walked my dogs for 20 minutes. It's a start.

I started the elliptical 7 days post op with doc approval but I hold on for part of the workout so I don't disturb my core, which is still quite tender.

Wow, good for you. I was still recovering from pain /fatigue 7 days post op. Do be careful about doing too much too early. You body needs some recoup time. Besides it is a good time to relax and let significant other help you with things. It is not a race.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
