Chubarella 87 Posted February 10, 2013 I've always read that when you have hypothyroidism you cannot drink any soy products because it keeps the thyroid medication from working. Now that I'm sleeved, I'm taking thyroid medication and I'm suppose to be drinking Protein Drinks that are full of soy. How is this suppose to work? I feel like my system is confused and keeping me from losing weight.
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted February 10, 2013 Why must your Protein drinks be full of soy?
Chubarella 87 Posted February 10, 2013 Why must your Protein drinks be full of soy? Well I always thought that whey Protein isolate has soy in it?
flmama 105 Posted February 10, 2013 whey is a byproduct of cheese production and is a dairy product not a soy product. There are soy Protein powders, but that is different from whey.
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted February 10, 2013 Ahhh... Nope. No soy.. it's made from milk.
moregoodtimes 331 Posted February 11, 2013 My thyroid was removed so i am on a high dose of synthroid. My endocrinologist and surgeon both said to take it on an empty stomach and wait 30-60 min before ingesting anything. You are not supposed to have Calcium or citrus with it or it is not absorbed. I take mine as soon as i wake up. I put the two pillsout pn the counter before bed so they re ready to pop in my mouth. I have a good 30 minutes under my belt by the time i use the rr, brush my teeth, get the bed made, get downstairs, potty the dog and get a cup of tea made. I have also taken it during the night ..like 2 am..., but since surgery, am sleeping so well that does not always work now.

kiki1196 101 Posted February 11, 2013 My PA said not to take Iron with your thyroid meds. Keeps them from working. Just another "scheduling" issue.

Kimo. 24 Posted February 11, 2013 Having had HypoThyroidism for 20 years now I have learned not to drink anything but Water with my med. and to wait min. of 1 hour before having anything else. I've been sleeved and seem to be doing just fine applying the same simple rule. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I just dont want my thyroid to interfere with my weight loss!! I've been told as we lose weight our Thyroid will naturally lower the need for meds. Not saying it'll go away but dose will decrease over time.
