Pre op diet is hard, but that's ok :)

Recommended Posts

I start my 8 day pre op diet today. I have to go to Old Chicago tonite with my mom since she can't drive in the dark, and she is meeting friends there, and asked me to drive her. I will be bringing my shake with me. Even though this is tough, I can't believe my time is finally here. I've been working hard (just like everyone else) jumping through insurance hoops, countless doctor appointments, and medical tests and it's finally here. My heart is so full of happiness and peace right now knowing that I will be sleeved one week from tomorrow. Hopefully I will still be this happy in a couple of days...LOL :D

When I was on my preop diet I thought it was no big deal for the first day or two. Then on the third day I was so hungry I didn't know if I could possibly do this, after that it got easier as my body adjusted to the change. Good Luck.

gather those thoughts of hardest and best diet techinique and memory's, use them after surgery and see that they go a long way further into weight losses. You should not be as hungry given your at stage that its turned to be most comfortable afterward.

All I will say is if you can make it thru the pre-op diet, the post-op diet is a breeze! Plus, you have a jump on your weight loss.

Just take it one meal at a time. Make the right choices now and you will have a safer surgery. Lets face it, if we were good at dieting, we wouldn't need this surgery! Lol!

I've been on my pre-op diet for over 2 weeks now and have 3 more days to go including today. What has been amazing about this is that I haven't had to focus on the food. It's not a question of "what am I gonna make for dinner? " or romanticizing my next meal, because it's another freakin shake! So, I feel like I have a glimpse of what life would be like post-op when food isn't the focus of my time and attention and just finding other things I enjoy to fill that space. I only had a couple of days where I was really hungry. I have to drink Water and find other things to do to occupy my mind until the feeling passes becasue food isn't an option now and it won't be after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
