Never heard this, my doc and NUT stressed the importance of taking my Vitamins. At first I had to take chewables, but now I do better with pill form. Nevertheless, always listen to you doc.

if they are how come they give us the chewable Vitamins at the hospital it doesnt make sense to me at all

Interesting. I guess each doctor does things differently. My Nut did tell me they used to start Vitamins sooner but they just changed it up just recently. If you doctor says its okay then I would follow their instructions. I am going to ask if I can take liquid B vitamins after the clear liquid stage. B's help with energy and it is liquid soluble.

My surgeon said the same thing, he added it was going to be hard enough to focus on the liquids and Protein shakes one more thing would just be more difficult.

My doc. Told me Vitamins is my food and he was right. If I didnt take my pills or waited too long in the day I felt the same way. I had no energy, no apitite, nothing. I just wanted to sleep but when I take them I feel energized. Its hard to believe you cant take your vitamins. The hospital didnt give me any but I was ok because my doc started me on the vitamins 1 month pre op so by that time its still in my system. I hope the 10 days come and go for you and your back to your regular self, I would take them anyways but its up to you. Thousands of us have different docs with different views and mines never said to stop taking them ever. Good luck and god bless.

I know my Dr. wanted me to wait until I started mushy food to start taking Vitamins. He said it would be to hard to try to take even a chewable during the liquid phases because of the stomach swelling and healing. I am actually surprised that some people got them in the hospital but as with everything every dr. is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
