Recommended Posts

Heyy was wondering if anyone can help me. I'm just over 4 weeks post op I havnt had any issues and feel 100% fine, I'm going out with the girls tonight and was takein the car but now for some crazy reason I'm diein to have a glass of wine! My dr didn't give me an actual amount of time to not have alchol so was wondering what people would think, is it a really bad idea? Has anyone had a glass 4 weeks out and were they ok? Thank you...x

This topic came up recently and created quite an emotional response and lots of posts. The Drs varied from 3 weeks to one year.

Oh my......I would suggest you ask your surgeon. You are going to get a zillion different answers here and some will be quite emotional.

Unfortunitly I can't ask my surgeon that's why I have asked people there opinion and what they think. I don't understand why I would get emotional responses Im genuinely concerned x

I haven't discussed this with my doctor yet. I did discuss with my dietician. She stated you will get intoxicated on very little. She also suggested if I did drink, to try it at home first because no police officer will believe you had a few sips.

It's empty calories, so why bother? My fear is that I drank a couple of bottles of wine per week before surgery. I do not want to replace my food addiction with alcoholism. I'm leaving it in the past.

Thank you for ur response I totally understand that I honestly was just thinking the one glass. Even pre op I wasn't a big drinker so it's not something that I would do on a regular basis I just really wanna know if it would harm me x

Hey Karla,

I don't think that it is going to "harm" you, I do think that you aren't going to like how you feel if you do have it though. I tried a couple of sips about 2 weeks after getting sleeved, and it just didn't taste right, and the burning in my stomach was not pleasant. Also keep in mind that there's little in your stomach now to hold up the effects of alcohol, so that 1 glass might feel more like 3 or 4 glasses. If you make the decision to imbibe, just go slow, know that it might kick your butt a little quicker and a little harder than before and be ready for that.

Take care! :)

it seems to be an emotional issue here on the board, if you search you will see. You can also google "drinking alcohol after weight loss surgery"

Never a problem. I'm not in a position to ever judge anyone. I've done a ton of stuff in my day that I wouldn't want to be judged on. Just be careful in what ever you decide to do.

I agree with John. And you yourself don't sound like you "need" the wine :)

I would say that 4 weeks is a little soon. Another thing is, you will be out, if the wine hits you in a bad way It could make for a pretty miserable experience!

Have fun with your friends embrace your new life,

And trying wine will come. Perhaps at a later date and at home with a sip or two so you can gauge how it makes you feel!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
