I did this a while back and am so glad I finally did! I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, now have a bipap machine and wouldn't want to be without it. I feel so much better!

Good luck to you.

How did the surgery go with severe sleeep apnea. I was recently diagnosed and I'm kind of nervous about being sedated.

I had my first sleep study on Monday. Went into thinking I was probably ok, since most have told me that I don't really snore. Apparently I was wrong - was brought in Tuesday for a second study with a CPAP, and today they called and told me they would be sending me one. I have to admit I did feel more rested after the study with the CPAP - I guess it's one of those things that you don't really know you have and how it can make you feel until you finally experience a night of actual good sleep?

Also, once a lot of weight is lost, wouldn't the apnea (potentially) go away?

I would hope so!! My pulm specialist's office is taking forever. I had my first sleep study the first week of January. I just received my reports and was told the CPAP company should contact me in 4 weeks. UGGHHHH. Their slow process is agonizing. How is your process going?

I'm not sure actually. The company providing the equipment (Medigy) contacted me today and took a payment. I guess that gets the ball rolling, but I have no idea what the time frame is.

I survived mine but hardly slept! First the room got terribly hot so I had to call them in to fix it. Then I kicked off a leg sensor and they had to come in. They came in and woke me at 4:30am to go home. I know I didn't sleep more than 4 hours. All they told me was I didn't snore and they got the readings they needed but I haven't heard anything back from them or my surgeons office.

My surgeons office told me that if the sleep study revealed apnea it was my decision if I wanted the CPAP. They said most sleep issues would be resolved with the weight loss so it was up to me if I got it.

I have had a CPAP since 2007...was able to quit using it 3 yrs ago when I lost 85 pounds. Needed to start using it again when I gained back...so yes, sleep apnea can go away with weight loss! I can tell you exactly what weight I need to be at for mine to disappear. Can't wait to get rid of that thing again for good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
