First I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who helped/answered my last post. I literally felt like I was going to die! My surgery was on Monday evening and now today is Friday and I'm feeling better. The nausea is almost gone and I'm walking around good, soreness is getting better too! I just have a general feeling of tiredness. And that's what my question is. I know part of that tiredness is from not getting in my liquids and I"m getting dehydrated. So here it is.......Whenever I drink ANYTING, It goes down, then hits right above my ribs and I get this oh no its stuck feeling that hurts then after a little bit it goes on down. Did anyone else have that and when does it go away? I am so thirsty, but it literally hurts to drink when it gets stuck there! Popsicles are the only way I'm getting in Fluid right now. And I know I would feel better if I was hydrated. But this is really a concern to me....surly it won't last forever RIGHT??!! It scares me to think it may never go away. Please tell me when you could drink normally and not cause pain, and no I do not drink too much at once, only tiny sips. Is it just because my stomach is still swollen and sore inside? Thanks in advance!

No it doesn't last forever. Your sleeve is swollen so that makes it harder to drink. Small sips, no gulps. Even now at about 7 weeks out, I can feel/hear it going down after it sits for a bit. Warm coffee especially!

Try cold Water, ice cold, and your PPi (anti acid) to help reduce swelling. And if Popsicles is what works, Popsicles it is!

I remember that for the first few days, it wasn't bad - just noticeable. Warm liquids did not feel that way and very small sips worked too.

Good luck!!

Everything you are going through fortunately doesn't last forever you're doing the right thing by taking the sips as everyone above has stated you are still swollen it gets better I myself had trouble staying hydrated which does cause you to feel weak. My NP suggested that I eat ice chips (pieces of ice) so I would get cups of ice because I could drink enough, popsicles are an option as well.

Just hang in there this to will pass. :)

It doesn't last forever. Are you on a acid reducer? Also I couldn't drink anything COLD at all. it was painful. I drank everything at room temp, warm or hot. Does temp matter to you? Try to warm your drinks up a little. Also I could do Popsicle's but that was the only cold thing.

Yes. It's normal but be careful of dehydration. Vomiting because of won't help a thing. Powerade zero is a good friend to get to know. Has electrolytes you need. Also I could not tolerate cold drinks either. Room temp bottled Water went down much easier and hot tea or broth. Also I am 7 weeks out and still prefer bottled water like that e en over filtered water out of my refrigerator. Please sip all the time and do as many Popsicles as you can stand. If they had sugar substitutes in them they could give you a little diarrhea but not everybody is bothered. I wasn't and Popsicles were my friend too. Good luck. It can be difficult at first. I now can get 32 ounces of liquid down pretty fast now. In less than 15 minutes if I need too. Just steady sips but never gulping.

I can't suggest ice chips enough!! I still eat them daily at 7 weeks out to stay hydrated. It makes a huge difference and once I got my hydration under control everything felt better

I could only tolerate Popsicles, frozen Protein Shakes or warm broth. Anything in between hurt. Also, once I started adding flavor to Water it seemed to go down better. Good luck! This too shall pass. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
