Getting close for me...

Recommended Posts

The count down is one. 1 week to pre-diet. Started getting everything on my list together. Like most, excited and nervous at the time. Question; how many of you told people outside of your very inner circle what you were doing? I have only told my Wife, Son and Mom. Even my Dad does not know yet. Not good at keeping secrets lol) I also told my long time very close friend that I was thinking about it but have not told he I have confirmed. I value his opinion and he was definitely leaning towards me not doing it. I am doing the right thing here by going through with it right??

I am struggling with this issue as well. I am a very open person, so my whole family and some close friends know. It's not that I want to keep it a secret (which I know is impossible anyway because word spreads quickly in small communities) but I don't want to feel like I have to tell EVERYONE either. The problem is, if people ask, I don't want to lie either.

The other thing that really bothers me is that there are so many people who think that surgery is the easy option. While I will agree that is gives you a major boost in your weight loss, there is nothing easy about it!

I guess we will just have to find our way with this. Good luck! I'm going in for surgery next week and I have had my moments of cold feet as well.

I can relate also Amylu My husband and his skinny friends don't understand the hard time I've had with food

I had to make them understand it's not away out. it's a tool to help with better living and for my health.I am

going to live the Atkins life of eatting no sugar, low carbs, high high Protein with the help of my new tool the sleeve and it will be better way of life.. I had to give info; for my husband to read he is looking at this in a new way. I also live in a small town too and big with our church I ask god to give me the right answers at the time when it comes.

Good luck with your surgery I am still in the per per op stage I am so ready!!!

Thanks Ladies, you replies provide me with much needed support. I am not going to Lie, my planned response when asked about my weight will be " I'm eating much less these days" Hopefully that will suffice! Best of luck to you all!

Congrats on your surgery date! I, too, struggled with who to tell. At first, I tried to keep it to my family...mom, dad, step mom, sister...and then I decided that I HAD to tell my closest friends. Not because I felt like I was keeping a secret from them, but simply because I could use their support during this process. I told a couple of co-workers as well...also for their support. However, there are some people that I feel just don't need to know. I get tired of explaining my reasoning behind going through with VSG; and I'm to the point if one more person tells me I'm taking the "easy" way out...or that I'm not "fat enough" I'm going to scream! Truth is, my bmi is 43. I feel like crap. And surgery ISN'T the easy way out--it's a tool to HELP get to my weight loss goal. So, yes...I think you are totally doing the right thing! Like sastexan4u said, you're just getting cold feet. Just think about all of the positive changes that will happen in your life! I get nervous thinking about my time crawling near, but I just think about how much better I will feel and how committed to this change I am. You can do it! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
