When does the pain stop...completly?

Recommended Posts

Today I am 5 weeks post op. Monday I returned to work...thinking I was pain free. Yesterday was pretty uncomfortable...pain level was low, but bothersome...like I just needed to ly down for a while. I sit at a desk, but I do get up and walk frequently throughout the day. Just wandering when will I be completely healed, pain free and have that feeling of normalcy.

Can you describe your pain? I was completely pain free by about day 8 or 9

Is your pain correlated with eating, or do you have general discomfort no matter what?

Sometime afternoon time it started yesterday & today...is when it starts...it's just a general discomfort.... Lowers left side....feels like its at the bottom area of the stomach....near/behind one if my largest incisions.

Hmmmm is your surgeon aware that you are still having that type of pain? I'm not trying to scare you or anything but it seems unusual.

I'm 3 weeks out and had similar pain still every now and then or when I take a deep breath. The PA said that's normal esp from ur largest incision where your stomach was removed. :-).

I'm 2 weeks out and have pulling sharp pain down my left side, I was told this was due to the internal stitches where the surgeon has sewn the muscles back together well to prevent hernias. I've been in pain with this for over a wk now, just got over the dreaded shoulder pain to end up with pain in my side. Pain relief doesn't help at all.

my surgeon told me it is basically where they remove the stomach...that particular stitch....oh also I had those pains about 6 weeks....surgeon also said everyone different. We can all say we felt good bad this long that long but bodies are unique and heal different....good luck

I did have the pain from the exit site but this is further down and very sharp. I was told its where they sewed the muscles back together. I just hope its stops soon x

Do you carry a lot of weight in your stomach? I do. I was sleeved 1/15 and I have some discomfort still in my largest incision where the stomach was removed. Not really pain but it feels like I'm pulling something. I was told its completely normal. I just make sure there are no signs of swelling or discoloring.

Not really, my weight seems to be everywhere :-) the pain isnt the exit wound, it lower down, like you say a pulling sharp pain. Glad to hear its normal. I will keep my eye on it incase there's any problems. I did get my gp to look at it but she didn't know anything about the procedure but was able to reassure me that there wasn't a leak. Thank you for your advice :-) x

I was sleeved on 1/28 and called the surgeon today about that pain... Its like a sharp poke/pull rip ouchie between my two bottom slits. As long as the pain is not coming from under the ribs that radiates to my back (which could indicate gallbadder problems) and there is no leaking or fever, he said I should be fine and just keep up with pain meds. He is sending me for blood tests to be sure though!

My rule - when in doubt, call the office.

That's the same as me, I was sleeved on 23/1/13. I think the pain is the muscles like I was told before. I do agree that if in doubt ring or go on for advice. I have found that this forum helps me as if anyone's had the same problems they are happy to help with words of advice and encouragement. I've had it checked and the gp isn't concerned and after speaking to other sleevers I'm reassured :-) x

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
