I started on soft/pureed foods yesterday and I am having stomach pains also. I don't know if my pain tolerance is higher than yours, or you have more pain than I have. My stomach starts cramping and I feel like I need to throw up! I asked a question similar to yours and I was told patience! We have new stomachs and will experience such things! Good luck

It might have something to do with the curry. I was told no spicy food for at least 6 months.

I hope your feeling better really soon.

Sorry to hear you are in pain. food tolerance is different for everyone.

I'm sitting here eating ground up chicken mixed with salsa and refried Beans with no problems. But this morning I tried scrambled eggs for the 1st time in 6 weeks. Within a minute of the 1st bite, my stomach was rebelling.

I had read on here that rice is one of the foods that will swell in your stomach. Don't know if that's true, but when I do try rice, I'm going to be real careful on the amount I consume.

Yeah, I think it might be the rice.. I was told not to attempt rice for a long time. My SIL is over a year out from surgery and she still can't have rice without pain. I hope you feel better really soon.

Definitely the rice. That happened to me when I ate gumbo with a little rice. Never again!

One of the guys in a WLS support group I've attended, who happens to be a patient coordinator for a COE, said he loved rice prior to his sleeve surgery. He couldn't wait to get to soft foods to be able to eat it again. He said he ate around a teaspoon full of rice and it made him so sick, he isn't sure he'll ever eat rice again. I will never forget the look on his face as he described how much it hurt. I quickly added rice to my list of things I can live without vs being in pain.

I hope you're feeling better now!

I've heard that about rice and bread, that you have to be very careful with quantities because they swell.

I am almost 6 wks out and started eating v. spicy food at about a week and a half, I just couldn't take the blandness anymore (I'm Indian, it is genetic :)) I would buy thai Soup, ask for it extra spicy, then run it through the blender. So I'm pretty sure spice is not contraindicated per se, thank goodness.

Honestly, when I had my band anyway, sometimes its just best if you can just make yourself throw up. I don't know how other people feel about that but I would rather just throw up and be done with it then lay around the bathroom being sick for hours.

I'd agree with you most times Grace, but one thing I was told to avoid at all costs for the first six weeks was throwing up. It causes spasms that can cause leaks. Avoiding throwing up means stick to the foods your doc said to eat, don't over eat, and don't eat too much. It's really important!

OP your doc allows curried rice at less than three weeks out? Most of us are told to avoid rice for several months (I was cleared for rice at 3 in very limited amounts).

You might want to try anti nausea pills if you have any or tums, antacids, whatever you have on hand but I'd skip the vomiting if possible. And rice for some time! :P

I thought we were supposed to avoid throwing up at all costs? Especially until totally healed? I know it cant be helped sometimes, but it would scare me.to intentionally induce vomiting.

I am 16 months out and still rarely eat rice. I get this pain right below my breastbone. I LOVE sushi and sushi rice is one of the worst. I now love no rice rolls. tuna, Salmon, crab and avocado rolled in seaweed. I can still only eat 2 pieces. But, the rice pain is not worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
