Hi everyone...I am new here, my name is Melanie and I had surgery Jan 24, 2013. I went for my 2 week checkup yesterday and got moved up to pureed foods. I would like to know if anyone has experienced pains after eating for the first time? I had grilled fish yesterday where I ate about 1/4 of a piece of fish. After about 6 or 7 bites my stomach started cramping and continued cramping on and off for about 30 minutes after I stopped eating. Again tonight, I smashed up some Beans and ate about 2 tbsp and my stomach started cramping again. Am I doing something wrong?

Mine does that too if I drink to fast, but I am still on all liquids till Saturday, then I get semi-solids and purees.

mnbaileygirl, I have the same thing - depending on what I eat. I'm 6 weeks post-op and still have trouble with chicken, or anything with sucralose or alcohol sugars.

I tried some Gatorade G4 today and my stomach didn't like it one bit, but I was able to eat sunflower seeds and a peanut power bar with no problem.

For each food, I have to go through a testing process to see if my stomach is ready for it.

weelllll fish and Beans might not have been the best thing to start with. fish is more of a semi solid even though I know its allowed for must of us on the pureed stage it might not have been the right thing for day one you know what I mean? I have read of several people having a hard time with beans too. I can't think of anything off the top of my head for you to try right this moment but maybe other people can chime in with some ideas.

If you are doing purée you have to purée the food with some sort of liquid to "water" it down. Are you doing that?

Also when starting any new food, do just a tiny bit and eat it very slow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
