when is it ok to start on mashed taters

Recommended Posts

I am just a little shy of 2 weeks out surgery was on 1/28/13 and just started my soft foods today. I was wondering when it was acceptable to start eating mashed potatoes? It doesn't specify them in my post op diet. Advice please

I had mashed potatoes 2 weeks out, my dietician said you have to make them with extra milk so that they aren't to stiff but they were yummy.

It depends on who you ask! I do very low carb!

But in that early stage iI had some mashed potatoes because you eat barely ANYTHING :)

At this stage Protein should be your main goal .... don't waste space with food that does absolutely nothing for you.

Mashed / puréed sweet potatoes are better than white potatoes

Protein at this point comes mainly from the Protein shakes. Very little will be consumed from "food" in the first two weeks.

Yes, after that, Protein first is something I live by. I do not do many carbs (25 or so) .

But not everyone does it the same, some just do moderation of "regular" foods and stand by that way of life, and still lose..

I do not like speaking in absolutes everyone's plan is different !! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
