Don't forget to take this to the hospital

Recommended Posts

Earplugs! Several pair just in case you lose one like I did! It was a Godsend!! Also bring along an eye mask because they just come into your room and switch on the light without earning and it blinds you when you are sleeping. And of course..... A fluffy favorite bed pillow in a colored pillowcase so you don't forget to bring it home. That was a lifesaver and everyone commented what a good idea that was. My roomy was jealous! Hospital pillows are awful!!!!

Amen. My pillow was the most comfortable thing I had during my hospital stay. Thank God I was encouraged to bring one. And if it wasn't for my earplugs, I would have never gotten any sleep.< /p>

Yea my pillow was all I took and I was so happy I did. Wish I would of thought of something for my eyes, that was so annoying being woken up every hour.

My hospital pillow didn't bother me a bit...... I had full use of my morphine drip! I got a lot of sleep! :) Even smiled at the doc when she came around..... :)

yeah my hospital room was SO loud. the pumps were loud, the bed made noises because it was one of those fancy ones that inflated and deflated randomly to take pressure off your back and stuff, the IV pumps made noise.... I still got plenty of sleep because I was on a morphine PCA but ear plugs might have been nice.

Don't be afraid to ask the nurses for anything. They work there for you. Don't like the pillow you have, ask if they have any others that you can try. If you are cold, ask for a heated blanket. They had those when I had my c-section and they are wonderful. :)

I agree with buffalo, they are there to help you and make you as comfortable as possible. My nurses never blinded me with the light, fixed the air and brought and extra blanket when I was cold and brought meds etc when needed. Don't be afraid to ask! :-)

I agree they do whatever they can to make you comfy. I'm a nurse as well so I know the love we have for our patients. However, hospitals are notorious for not having very comfy pillows or enough of them. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have gone searching for pillows for my patients. And in most cases they need two or three to make them comfortable. So to be on the safe side I brought my own pillow and SO glad I did. Was kinda like my "security blanket" or "teddy bear" from home. And as for earplugs and night mask...if it wasn't for those I would have never been able to sleep soundly. My Morphine pump made me nauseous so I didn't have the luxury of medicinal sleeping. Oh well! The nurses and CNA's couldn't have been nicer and my experience was overall a very positive one.

i froze my butt off too! All they give you are these weak little sheets folded over 4 times...the windows in the hospital were drafty and the arm chair i slept in was close to those windows. Half way through i started closing my door. The hardest part was that there was simply nothing to do other than watch tv. I tried my tablet and watched a few of the movies of my choice there but there weren't enough distractions from the pain of recuperation.

Absolutely bring a pillow. I had an extended stay and I thanked my lucky stars I brought baby wipes. Nothing like smelling 4 days old when you already feel like crap. Also bring either slippers or socks w/ grippies for the walking down the hall.

They told me to bring a robe did not work for me. I had 3 IV's going in me so the long sleeves are a no go.

My hospital has private rooms thankfully. But the pillow is a great idea. I will pack a bag for my fiancé to bring with once I'm out of recovery. I will make sure it has a small pillow for my tummy, slippers, robe, and a pillow from my bed.

And don't forget ear plugs!!!! I had a semi private room and my roomy was always hot so I would have froze if it wasn't for my 5 blankets and warm footies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
