I want to live! Help!!! Any Tricarer's out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. This is my first post and I'm looking at all options to see what I can do to start living again. My BMI is 36 and I'm 35 and I've been overweight since age 10. I remember my mom always telling me in school that I needed to lose weight and putting me on every diet in the world. I vividly remember telling her while in high school to leave me alone, that I liked who I was. When I look back at those pics, I wasn't even overweight. Now, 80lbs later, I know that I am. With having been diagnosed with MS (no real symptoms though :) ) and diabetes in my family, I KNOW I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW! I've tried talking with the random Dr.'s I get with tricare and all they do is send me to nutritional where the pep talk is and a book on how to eat right. Any advise on getting approved on something like this? My hubby deploys in Mar and I'd like to suprise him when he gets home.

Thx!

Jamie

Wow! With your health issues, the best and really only place to start is with your Dr. You need to find out what your insurance situation is, or whether you can afford to self pay. If you can afford to self pay, you may have more options, but you really need to find out whether it is safe for you or not. MS affects each person differently I understand, but you need to put your health as priority #1. Now that being said, I know the excess weight is not healthy, but it is going to have to take a back seat while you find out the particulars with your other health issues. Maybe get busy and research the lap band and see if you can find any cases of MS patients being banded, so you have some info to take back to the Dr. And see if you can work it out to see the same Dr. each visit, it will really help!

Best of luck to you, and to your DH on his deployment as well. Please extend my thanks to him, for what he is doing for our country, and I hope you too will accept my thanks for being back at home supporting him.

Kat

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
