I find this no straw thing annoying. I have been almost exclusively using straws for as long as I can remember. The reason being when I drink out of cups I felt like I was swallowing too much air. I still feel like I am getting too much air when I sip from a cup or bottle.

Its driving me bonkers. I am thinking of using a straw for a day to see if I feel better. But I am only 3 weeks out is it dangerous at this point should I wait?

after a month (one more week!) you should be just fine for a straw! :-) I am with you-- love my straws

Try using a straw, then. I was the same way. I take in far less air when using a straw. Perhaps we are just advanced straw users.

I talked with my surgeon yesterday and he cleared me to use straws again. I am almost 5 months. He just encouraged me not to gulp down too much at a time, still just take sips. I seem to be able to drink so much more when I use a straw. Love em!

I am back to using straws. Two reasons to avoid them early out:

1. You get too much air (not sure how this works, but that's what I've been told)

2. You suck down Water too fast and it's painful or worse.

I slipped back into straws without thinking much about it. I think yo ushould be ok - but just to be sure you aren't an air gulper, take it slow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
