Port pics!

Recommended Posts

I know I promised these awhile ago but better late than never, right? My hubby had the awesome idea of injecting the port with red food coloring so you could see where the leak is. In the pics you will see the port and the tubing that were removed from me as well as the fill needle inserted into the port. Everything that is red is food coloring NOT BLOOD or marks on the port or tubing (we only had red). As the dye was injected into the port it leaked from both the front and the back of the tubing, as if it had a hole poked straight through it.

Let me know if you have any questions!

WOW that is interesting. So is there one hold or several ? It looks like to me there is one in the back and several in the front ? Or vice Versa ?

Do they know what caused it ?

There is a hole in the front and one directly behind it on the back. We think it was probably punctured with a fill needle.

Wow....veryyyy interesting.

And the fact that it probably got puncturing during a fill, is kinda scary.

Whew, these things are so delicate.

I was thinking the same thing , how delicate they are . Makes me kinda of wonder or think harder about having fills under Flouro now ?

Might be worth the extra money ?

My hubby thinks I need to email Inamed and make a suggestion that they maybe make the tubing a little stronger to be able to resist a needle puncture. Makes sense to me... it should be a little tougher!

As someone who is not banded yet , this does make me nervous . I would think that the tubing would be strong enough to with stand a needle prick since you have to get fills so often .

I would maybe send them the picture .

So if our fill doc punctures it, does the physician feel responsible to cover a new one being inserted? How do you know if it was the fill doc or a defective device? Does Inamed take any responsibility? I am a self pay and this worries me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
