Sleeved yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I had my surgery yesterday. Had many weeks of emotional turmoil with lots of crying and nervousness. I got home this afternoon and been so weak and uneasy in the stomach. I feel so bloated and gassy. I've read it's normal but how long does this feeling last? I have 2 small kids and I just don't have the energy to smile and be happy around them. Feel so guilty.

Is it normal to feel more gassy when I sip something?

I hope everything's ok.

I felt that way for about 5 days, then steadily improved and felt awesome at 2 weeks post op.

I'm 7 days post op with 5 kids, I can relate. I hope you have help with them, thankfully my parents live with us and have taken over.

I feel better today than yesterday so I'm pretty sure it gets better :)

You have to remember your stomach has just gone through some major trauma. 85% of it was just removed. How do you think it should react? It is swollen and really not in the mood to function like it did a week ago. As the other posters have pointed out, give it a week or so and the swelling will go down and it will begin to behave a little more like you may expect.

Just know that this will pass. Your children love you no matter what.

I have a difficult time understanding why some patients are released so early! Hopefully you have lots of help at home and can just getting rest and walking in.

I was outpatient. I don't like hospitals. There are sick people there. I know someone whose husband is still having issues from a staff infection from a hospitalization 3 years ago.

I was in at 7:00 and discharged at 11:30. Went back to my hotel and slept for 4 hours. Woke up and started my new life. May not work for everyone, but it sure did for me.

I was also sleeved yesterday and I am still in the hospital and no way should you feel guilty I am also having bad gas pains an its like being ripped apart. I just had 1/4 of a sf popsicle and the pain is unbelievable! The best you can do is take care of yourself! You can even recruit the little one to help you out they can be little Dr's!'n

Pre op weight 246, surgery weight 224, Goal 160, surgery 2/6/13

This is quite different than going home to a house full of kids and back to a hectic life.

I was home from the hospital in less then 24hrs. I am 10days postop today. It was hard the first couple of days home, my son didnt understand what was wrong with dad.... The gas started to go away a few days later, I still have a little now but as long as I walk a little bit every hour it seems to be ok. Just keep doing what you are doing and everything will get better!!

Indeed, it is, but I have since had two back surgeries which were also outpatient. I just do my best to set myself up for success. My wife and I arranged play-dates for the kiddos, pre-made meals in advance and tossed them in the freezer and sat the kids down and let them know what was going on.

"Daddy is not going to be able to play like before for a little while. I'm going to be fine, I just need to get some stuff fixed."

Let them ask any questions and answer them as best as possible. Surgeries are family events. Get everyone involved in the game and it will go well.

I went to Mexico for my revision, 2 days in the hospital and 2 days in a hotel. I'm glad I did that so that I could rest when I needed, I have 3 kids that are under 4 my 1 year old doesn't understanding why mommy can't pick her up but the 2 year old sure understands mommy can't chase him when he's noddy. My parents are amazing, and have stepped right in while daddy's at work.

I am blessed!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
