Has Anyone Had Trouble WithProtein Shakes?

Recommended Posts

I've tried all Brands and types. Every single one makes me sick. At first i thought it was whey but i tried plant, soy, egg white. I was able to keep the egg white down one time but i had to mask it with a lot of fruit and juice and it still tore my stomach in knots. Has anyone else had problems with Protein and did you ever come up with a solution?

Are you post-op?

How far out?

Have you tried premier Protein shakes?

Also if you're out far enough you can add it to some warm coffee.

I don't use Protein Powder at all. I can get my Protein in with drinking skim milk and my food. I track it on MFP. I am supposed to get 50-60 grams a day. I do use carnation sugarfree instant Breakfast and that mixed with a cup of skim milk is 13 grams of protein.I seem to be the only one on here that goes to a doctor that does not recommend using protein powder.< em>

Less of me I'm pretty much done trying different types as it hurts too much to throw it up and I'm almost 10 weeks out.

KristiKay i will give that a try

Ah ok I didn't know where you were post op... I can't see profiles from my phone.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Hope you start feeling better soon and find something that works.

Have you tried Isopure? It is clear and fruit flavored. One bottle is 40 grams Protein. I mix a little into my crystal light throughout the day. I HATED Protein Shakes, they made me gag! Until I tried the vanilla Premier Protein mixed with coffee.< /p>

Premier Protein that comes already mixed is the only one that doesn't make me ill.

I'm also one who has trouble with shakes. For a while I was tolerating GNC's pre-mixed Total Lean, but after my recent bout with norovirus, I can't even handle that any more. They were tolerable, now they're cloyingly sweet and just leave me feeling icky. I had an Atkins vanilla shake tonight (I'm back on only liquids for a bit) and held that down okay.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
