It's been almost 2 months since I was referred to a bariatric program. Went to a seminar and had my 1st appointment. Now I have to prove a diet, which I did, weight watchers, but don't think they'll accept... In deflated... :-(

Many of us went through the same thing. I won't lie to you. 6 months is a long time and it's not fun. However if you are committed to taking your life back you do whatever it takes. You're going to go through those 6 months anyway so you might as well go through the program and learn what you need to know to succeed.

Did a lot of mental prep today and you are right. Going to just go with it... :-)

When I first heard that I had to wait 6 months, I was really down about it. However, I'm 4 months in and these last few months have flew by. I often have what I call "bad body days" where I feel overly depressed about my weight..and I wish I could fast-forward time. But, I can say that having to wait was/is the best thing for me. I've had time to really comprehend that this is going to be a major change in my life and my bad eating habits won't just magically change when I have surgery. So, I've used this time to make new habits--healthier ones. I've been seeing a counselor who has helped me get through those bad days, and the support from my family and friends has been amazing. Six months seems like a long time, but you can make it! What's six months of waiting compared to a new life of FOREVER being healthier? You can do it! :)

I too had that 6 month waiting period. It started in September and I just had my last check up on Monday. I too resisted the "diet" - why are we forced to do something that has never worked before...?, if we could do it why would we need the surgery...? It just irked me and made me feel like the doctors don't really get us. However I do buy their reasoning that they need us to lose some weight before the surgery because that 1st load of fat lost comes from fat around our internal organ thus making the surgery easier and safer. That said, I waited until after the holidays and went on a strict diet (1000 cal/day) and tons of exercise. I lost 25 lbs for my Monday appointment and the doc agreed to submit my application for insurance approval. Well...I just called Blue Shield and found that I was approved...! I know I should be excited, but I am really scared now. The 6 months did go fast, so hang in there. You might consider my plan. While I didn't "diet" in the 1st 4 months, I didn't gain weight in that period either - which is essentially a huge accomplishment in my book. Good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
