December Bandsters

Recommended Posts

You know I HATE two weeks of no food(Stupid liquid Diet), but damn you have to like the results. If I ever get stalled losing weight down the line. I would do it again. I've lost over 16 lbs so far... I've still got till friday. I hope I can keep it up.

Now I will confess... The other day I had low sodium tuna with FF Miracle Whip (didnt even eat it all becuase I was wracked with guilt and only did it once) -- damn it it was creamy and I chewed the hell out of it... and then yesterday I stole one 1/4 inch (square) piece of beef ( was a bandster bite if i ever saw one) and two carots from some Beef Stew my mother was cooking for dinner. BUT it didnt seem to hurt the weightloss any. I sure hope it didnt hurt my liver.

I'm so glad everyone is feeling better, and good luck to all of you on the 18th!

Don't worry about crying all the time.... if that was a problem, I would have one already! :-) I'm emotional by nature. I'm sure it is completely normal. Your body has been threw a huge shock.

As far as the crying thing-my friends said she was really grumpy for about two weeks out. Another friend said she was in mourning of the loss of her friend "food". I think the emotional toll this surgery takes is totally normal. Especially since in my case, every time I am sad I would normally have something to eat. When you can't do that, the floods open. Think of it as detoxing. The feelings have to go somewhere. I would rather they come out in tears then end up in my flabby belly!

beversman - you are my heroine! I swear woman, you have will of STEEL! I am amazed at how well you are handling the pre-op liquid diet. You are a marvel, a work of nature, a glorious example of dedication. YOU GO GIRL! And no, a teeny bite of beef and a couple of carrots are not going to jack up your liver. And you've lost 16 pounds already? I am so proud of you! PROUD as punch!

kaydotrn, I should just send you a PM. As a matter of fact, I will. :)

I went on my elliptical for 12 minutes today and was determined not to take any pain meds, until my boy kicked me in the stomach as I was changing his diaper. I wanted to fling that little runt across the room. I immediately went for the liquid vicodin and am dancing on a cloud as I write. I'm about to lay down and nap a bit.

I have a question though: How do you determine your excess weight? I mean, how much is "excess"? I am 5'8" and 286 pounds (which is 6 pounds up from the morning of my surgery, by the way). If the weight range for my height is "126 - 167" (WTF?) how do I determine "excess?" Is it the range between (286 and 126) and (286 and 167)? And how come there is so big a range in my "normal" size anyhow? 126 - 167 is a 41 pound range.

I'm drugged, by the way, so excuse my mental musings. And I'm falling asleep...

Nat

Hello Ladies! Geesh I love ya! I love reading all the posts, comments, encouragment - all of it!

Anyhoo - so I could eat - yeah just about anything would be good. But I'm on this dang liquid diet for EVER!!! (till the 28th) I ate sour patch kids today and I don't even like them! Whats up with that? You'd think if I was going to cheat I'd eat something I really like. I made some really good Soup yesterday - I sauteed some onion in a little butter, chopped up a couple potatoes real small added Water and cooked until they were mush - I used some ham boullion for flavor, took the potatoes out and blended them so they were like mashed taters, then threw it in with some left over cream I had from the Cookies, and some skim milk - yeah trying to even it out! But dang it was good soup! The cookie baking got me yesterday and I ate ONE! Took a bite of another but spit it out cuz dd was watching. I've decided to eat on Christmas eve. Not like EVERYTHING but something besides Soup. I will be 2 weeks out at that point and I don't think a little bit of something will hurt - do you? I really should be on mushies at that point but doc is out of town until the 28th.

I havent been crying but I got my period 3 days out - it was a week early - which at my age is not usually a big deal but it was irksome since I wasn't feeling the greatest anyway. I was pretty grouchy that day.

I think I'm down about 15 lbs from my highest. I was 5 down at the doc's the other day but he said that wasn't really a true read because I had shoes and clothes on and he usually deducts them.

I have the church Christmas play tonight followed by Cookies - I think I'll take a yogurt smoothie to get me through it.

I'm actually going to work tomorrow - I'll probably leave by noon or 1 but I'll be back to talk to you all later. Good luck to all you Monday bandsters! You'll do great!

Here is a question for Dec bandsters that are banded.

How many days post op are you and what are you eating?

I am 5 days post op and starting to get hungry! I was so hoping I would not get hungry at all. I am drinking lots of Water and today I had creamy mushroom Soup, and refried Beans. I am also drinking Protein shakes. My Dr said I could be on puree diet but he didnt say I could puree meat. I need some more ideas for Protein. Do you think it would be ok to puree meat? ? Jill

Mystique and Nathalie-y'all sound junked up. Just kidding.

nathalie-thanks so much for your PM-I got you back.

Steph-stop baking girl. You are not superhuman and I can only imagine how hard it would be to not rationalize a single bite. :)

We can't all be as strong as Beversman. hehe.

Keep it up B-man you are so strong and I know you are going to do great!

I am off....

Just wanted to advise any of you who experience Migraines. Zomig is the miracle drug for in the throes of pain. Let it melt under your tongue. Axert is also incredible if taken at the onset. I had open band surgery Dec. 8, 2006. The worst part of the surgery was the Migraine that started before that Fri. morning and lasted until Sat. afternoon when I was permitted to dissolve a tablet under my tongue. Oh yes, the anesthesiologist did overkill thinking he would stop the migraine. I was awakened by 3 nurses in a panic because I was down to 7 breaths a minute. I thought I was still in surgery and they were slicing me open. The nurses said they had to wake me up, less pain med's to get my breathing right. Ordeal!!! Point being, don't go in to surgery with a migraine and if you have one don't tell anesthes...Sorry, just had to share this story. Find myself needing to tell someone.

Well, I have learned that I definitely need to be drinking Protein Shakes, something not mentioned by my doc. That's why I'm so unsatisfied I guess. I'm one week post op. I feel pretty good so far. Very emotional also. I feel that I've been reintroduced to the world of tv. Nothing on, of course. Family Christmas dinner this Tues. night at my house where my children and their families and I will eat and exchange gifts. Wish me luck. Daughters are bringing most of the food which will help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
