Hi, I'm new to the forum. I was banded 8/9/06 by Dr. Brad Osbourne. I have currently lost about 34 lbs. I am looking for information about how people eat now. I'm trying to get a good food plan established.

Thanks,

Elise

Hi Elise,

Welcome to LBT and congratulations on being newly banded :) Thirty-four pounds in just a few months is a great accomplishment!!

I think the biggest eating trick I've tried to stick by, is Protein first, then veggies/fruits - then and only then, if I have room, starches or carbs.

That said, I didn't always stick by this as well as I should lol .. we all slip up at times.

Have you seen a dietician that specializes in banded patients? This can be quite helpful to work out a good mealplan you can stick too.

Good luck

Like Jess, I try to eat my Protein as the biggest part of my meal, and include veggies and fruit as a general rule. After I have eaten mostly that, then if I have them I may add some carbs. But this is not always the case. They had a pot luck for Thanksgiving after church today, and I ate turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy, with a bit of green Beans, and some veggies from a relish tray. I know I should have avoided the potatoes, but I didn't. I only ate about 1/8th of what I did last year, if that much!! Then I ate a bite of DH's pecan pie...ok 3 bites!!! But I was very full, but not overly so to a point of discomfort. I did not feel deprived. I wanted the band because I wanted to live as normally as possible.

There are some really good ideas in the food Thread...have you looked at it? There are several threads where they do food diaries, so you may enjoy looking through those for ideas.

Good Luck, and welcome to LBT....it is a great site!!!

I eat mostly the same type of thing daily. I have a Protein Drink or Quakers sugar-free or weight control oatmeal for breakfast....or fat-free cottage cheese and fruit with splenda. I have a salad with grilled chicken or tuna on it for lunch most days. For busy days I keep the freezer stocked with Lean Cuisine or a Smart Ones for lunch.....the ones with veggies as a side (broccoli or asparagus) not starches. I have whatever the family is having for dinner, I just eat the meat and veggie. I am fortunate that I can eat ANY meat. Nice steaks, grilled tuna steak, chicken, even ground beef patties (I keep my fill less restricted though, which has meant slower loss BUT a very normal lifestyle.) I love cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, asparagus, okra, spinach, etc...and eat veggies one of the above with lunch and dinner. For Snacks I like cheese cubes, almonds, fat-free cottage cheese, boiled eggs, cucumber slices with ranch, etc......

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
