skinnygirlinside 60 Posted February 6, 2013 I am 7 days post op and have only lost 2 lbs.!! I lost 16 lbs. in the 2 weeks preop stage. Is this common? I feel as I should be down more than that!! Please advise!
FeeIsMe2 508 Posted February 6, 2013 Please don't let your 2lb loss get you down, remember that you are probably still retaining a lot of IV Fluid from the surgery. Good Luck and welcome to the losers bench!
JerseyGirl68 1,172 Posted February 6, 2013 I agree, you are recovering, retaining Fluid and swollen. Give yourself some time it will take a turn. I came out of the hospital 4lbs. heavier than I went in. LOL Good luck!!
Jessica Fenton Parks 4 Posted February 6, 2013 I understand your frustration, I was kind of the same way. We want to see results asap! I am 3 weeks out and I have not hit my 20lb mark yet. I have to keep telling myself it took me a long time to put this weight on so it won't come off overnight as much as I want it to. Hang in there and try not to focus on the pounds but more so on the inches. That is where I have noticed it most. Good luck and try not to get frustrated it will start coming off. Good luck! Healthygal 50 Posted February 6, 2013 I think I'll just be so glad I came through the surgery and woke up that I won't care about the weight for awhile! There's no way it's not going to come off eventually with the way we have to eat after this surgery, so let your body heal and figure it all out. My plan is to not be in any hurry. The very idea that this weight is finally going to come off FOREVER is so wonderful, that even if I lose very slowly, it will be pounds I will never see again so long as I stick to the program and make the right choices. You will lose the weight...give yourself the time.

Fiddleman 4,376 Posted February 6, 2013 I am 9days postop and I haven't seen a scale yet' date=' I go for my checkup on this Friday and I am scared that when I get there I won't of lost any weight.[/quote'] You may not lose any or have lost very little because of Fluid retention from surgery. However, weight loss should accelerate once you have gotten the Fluid out. 30-45 lb is a really good target for the first couple of months and then it will slow down to 10-15 a month. Be aware that there will be stalls where the scale does not move at all. Look up "3 week stall" in the forums. Everyone is different in exactly when this stall occurs and how long it is. After the first stall, you will have more stalls, but timing and length is really unique to everyone. There is a good description on why these stalls occur if you look up the link in "Butter The bean" posts. At least it used to be there. Basically, Your body stores glycogen in the muscles. Glycogen requires Water to sustain it. As the glycogen stores are used up, the Water will leave. And the cycle continues over and over again. You can't really fight this process, but it is best to remain well hydrated to support the process around he filling and emptying of these glycogen stores. Good hydration means at least 64 oz a day. You will need to build up to drinking larger amounts. You should be able to meet daily water goals anymore in no time. Good luck!
