Hello all! First let me say congrats to EVERYONE on this journey. Congrats to taking steps towards a better, healthier YOU!! I'm a 30yr old female. I've not been sleeved yet. I am waiting for approval at this time. I'm very excited, because I'm expecting to hear that I'm approved. I've been doing a lot of research. I had my heart set on the band for about a month, but then changed my mind once I really thought about all of the after-care, meaning fills/unfills. I also asked my surgeon how much fills cost without insurance (in the event that I should not have it one day in the future), and the amount made me shift towards the sleeve. I made the final decision to go with the sleeve once I met with my nutritionist & also did my psych eval & they both suggested it. Anyway...I am now 301lbs. My highest weight ever was 306 this year. I was shocked when I saw that I'd reached 300+. I'd been avoiding the scale but didn't think I'd gotten that out of control. I am truly tired of being out of shape, out of breath, tired/having lack of energy, not enjoying shopping, etc. I've been preparing mentally for this journey, because I am truly an emotional eater. Any, all comments, advice is welcome. I look forward to joining those on the losers bench. I am truly concerned about Hair loss. I KNOW IT WILL GROW BACK!!!! But still...lol. I'm also hoping that I will be able to tolerate almost anything that is healthy & delicious post-op. Well, I don't wanna be to long with this post. I'll see you all around! Much Love!!!

You are in for a wonderful journey I am 4 months out and I have lost 50 lbs and I love my sleeve I am losing hair but I really dont care, it will grow back. So for my journey has been nothing less than great. While you are waiting I suggest you take the time and truly understand how you got where you are, set goals and plans for your success. But understand you must allow the professionals and the process to do what it does. In other words it takes time and work. I am excited for your and best of luck feel free to ask questions

Hi. Welcome to the site. Wow, I don't feel like such a newbie any longer. Now I'm reading posts of others that are starting the journey as I sit here with a surgery date. :D

Don't worry, the time will go by fast. At times, I thought it moved slowly, but now that surgery is a couple of weeks out for me, I felt the time flew right by. I think the extra time helped me to confirm that this was the right decision that I've made. I feel like "bring it on" I'm all ready for the surgery with no doubts....who knows how I'll feel when the date gets closer :P

I was sleeved yesterday and I too am concerned about Hair loss. Luckily my best friend is a hairdresser and I was told to use Bosley products . It has made a big difference already plus I started Biotin. If you know a hair dresser who is willing to pick it up for you at the supply store at half the cost it is well worth it. Look into it

I was told Bosley is much better then Nioxin for this problem. But be proactive and start right away to prevent Hair loss from starting. If only I had thick hair to begin with but I don't! Boooooo!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
