Wondering if any post sleevers ever experienced depression of sorts following surgery. I have had a "food routine" for so many years and am a little nervous about the drastic change surgery will have on my eating habits. food can no longer be a coping mechanism or comforter.

I am 5 weeks out, and fortunately, I haven't been depressed. But for the 1st week post-op, I was pissed at the world. Don't know why but I really wanted to fight somebody. :P

Yes, I have/had a serious problem with depression. I had this problem before surgery, but had been able to manage without medication. After surgery, I begin to sink pretty low and had to restart taking medication. I had to stop doing many things cold turkey and like you, food has been my friend for many years.

51/2 months out and had to go back on antidepressant... The depression is just now starting to lift for me. Still have some days where I just sit (has alot to do with the weather for me, I"m an outdoor person). Started tanning in a tanning bed (Just once a week), and this has also helped...

if you suffer from depression or anxiety I think that this massive change can be very difficult. I personally have struggled and noticed the classic signs such as extreme tiredness, especially in the mornings, and sleeping so so much - the lack of food doesn't help lol

Best to get some help and meds if you need them, I'm finding the more active I am the better I feel :-)

I am presleeve (surgery next week)and experienced quite a bit of anxiety myself about not being able to cope with food.

I decided to come up with some fun beverage options for the full liquid stage and forward as well as alternatives to my favorite foods and Im feeling much better!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
