I'm starving--please talk to me about acid reduction

Recommended Posts

I'm starving, and it doesn't feel like head hunger. Today seems worse than yesterday as far as hunger goes. I'm 4 weeks out today. I've tried to let myself "experience" the hunger and understand that it is ok to be hungry sometimes. It is still not as bad as pre-op. My doc has me on Pepcid twice per day. I am wondering if anyone has used Pepcid and had the same issues. I have a message into his office to ask if I can take a PPI instead or in addition to the Pepcid. Does anyone have any experience with Pepcid alone? Did it help or were you hungry like me?

When I first experienced acid reflux a few weeks ago it felt like hunger but once I took medicine wooh it felt like acid reflux for sure it sucks.. And the worse part about it is not knowing that just about everything has acid in the ingredients. Drives me nuts.. Wish I could help. I struggle with reflux too. :(

Many people confuse acid reflux for hunger... but some also confused hunger for reflux! Maybe your body actually is hungry.

My doctor gave me a good tip on figuring out whether or not I'm hungry - imagine eating a boiled egg. If you can picture yourself wanting to eat a boiled egg, and truly enjoying it, chances are that you need food. Of course, it's not always a fool-proof method, but it has worked for me.

I often get acid issues when I go too long without eating, and then eat too fast, which leads to more reflux. Try to listen to your body, and don't let yourself "be hungry", if your body is asking for food.< /p>

At 4 weeks out, you must be on soft foods, or semi-solid foods. Eat every few hours, and keep up the protein!

Does not eating make reflux worse ? I dont eat much anymore. Im 5 weeks out have been haveing hard time with acid and dry heaves so I have started eating less and less. I try to drink. But everything has acid. EVERYTHING.. i instantly throw up Water, ice, pedialite and gatorade.

I eat a cracker or a very little bit of Cereal. Thats it..

I had this same problem and my surgeon put me on Prilosec in the morning and in the evening, and Zantac in the afternoons. Worked like a charm in two days. I hope you and the OP feel better soon.

Not eating can definitely make acid worse. Your body is tuned to start secreting acid at the mere thought of food, to prepare for digestion of a meal. If your body is hungry, the acid will soon follow!

I rarely had acid issues pre-op, and started having them post-op. I made a few changes to help that: I ate ever 2 to 3 hours, had small meals, chewed my food to a mushy pulp, and ate slowly with small bites. I also tried to initially avoid the acidic trigger foods like spices or tomatoes.

Eating Protein will give the acid something to work on, since carbs break down and flush out of your stomach right away. Try cottage cheese, or greek yogurt, if you are still on mushies. If you are on solids, try some eggs or Beans. (I'm vegetarian, so I have no experience with meat)

Pepcid simply didn't work for me. My doctor swiched me to Omeprozole.

Me too. I was on omeprozole for a month then went to Pepcid, and had to switch back. It was like day and night!

Have you spoken with your doctor? It can't be good for you to eat so little and to be vomiting so much :(

I would say its reflux. I didn't feel hungry until I switched to pepsid a month out, then it was like constant crazy hunger feeling. I switched back to the original meds and its gone now!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
