Alright I am 25, puerto rican from NYC. I had a boyfriend but found out not too long ago that I wasnt his only girlfriend lol. Oh well moving on!!

Funny, I was just dating a Puerto Rican man and just found out that I wasn't his only girlfriend!

Heart is broken b/c I really thought he was special. But right there with you, moving onward and downward (on the scale!)

Cheers to strength.

Hi all!

It's been so long since I have posted on here. Things have just been so crazy for me lately and it never fails I get distracted and I start to fall away from my support groups and not doing what I am suppossed to be doing to stay on track with my eating and exercising. Now I am just over a year out and I am still not doing what I need to do all the time and I get so discouraged with myself.

But I am looking forward to logging on here more often to help get my spirits up. I feel like I am carrying around a hugh weight on my shoulders because I have stopped eating right and losing weight. Not to mention I am having a hard time SLEEPING...I get on average only 3 hours sleep each night. It has gotten so bad my doctor has prescribed me some Ambien CR but in the last 4 months I have only gotten up the nerve to take it 2 times. I am so afraid of becoming dependant upon sleeping pills for sleep. Not to mention on top of all this I have been at a "plateau" for the last 3 months and really need to be back on track with my weight loss again.

I am not even at the half way mark yet, and it is just too soon to stop losing already, it has only been 14 months since surgery.

Enough of my rambling on and on....boy do I miss posting on here!!! LOL

How is everyone else doing???

Not being able to sleep can slow weight loss down. I read a study that said when people are sleep deprived they crave carbs. Don't be afraid to take the Ambien Cr. Just don't take it every night. Maybe try taking it every 3rd night. I take it, but I have to take something different on the nights I don't take it. I can't sleep at all if I don't take something. Valerian is good and so is over the counter Unisom in the orange box. You have to read the ingredients. Some unisom is the same as what's in tylenol

pm. You want the other unisom that's a different ingredient.

I can relate to falling off the wagon. I get so sick of watching every bite I put into my mouth.

Thanks for the advice... I will try that with the CR and possible the Unisom. Hopefully my body can finally rest!!!

Take Care!

Hey there,

I thought that I would take a chance and look through the threads and was shocked to find something that said single! I was totally excited!!

A little bit about me.... I am 23/f/single from kansas. I am currently in nursing school. I have been overweight my entire life and was banded on Dec 22nd in Denver colorado. So far I am down 28lbs. My relationship history is completely bleak and depressing. I've never had a serious relationship. Been kissed once and if I could take it back I totally would!

So, I am sure you can guess that I have some confidence issues. I want a relationship so bad but it seems like every guy is completely repulsed by me.

I'm hoping that through this process I not only get healthier but I gain confidence and get to a point where I dont repulse myself.

I'm really glad that I found this thread. Hope I hear from you soon!

It looks like you have already started losing weight. The more you lose, the better you will feel. Don't get discouraged if you hit a plateau. Just keep following the rules and the weight will come up and in it's place will

be a lot of confidence.

Thanks! The band made it a whole lot easier. That's for sure. Now if I can stay away from ice cream, my biggest

downfall I would really consider it an accomplishment.

Today I was proud of myself. they were giving away free mimi ice cream cones at Walmart and I remembered

that I am 2 lbs up and I want that 2 to go away!

This thread has been a little inactive lately.

Welcome Joanne. There should be a thread that is just for your state. You'll have to look on the main page, but I think there is one for every state. Best wishes on your journey!

I'm 29 and orignally from the nyc area. I currently live in the philly area. I find it very hard to date in the philadelphia area as compared to the nyc area. I had no problems dating when I lived in ny.

I just need to know if this is normal for the average bandster who's been in this situation....

I just just got back from my UGI to see if there was an issue with the band (slipped, or something) since I had been having this pressure and slight pain everytime I ate. Not to mention the continuous throwing up (about 1 time a day if I average it out). The results look good, no issues with the band itself. the Dr.said if I continue to have issues to come in to get a slight unfill. Any thoughts? I have had this issue off and on for the last 5 months; very little weight loss (if any), throwing up at least one meal a day, cannot eat anything more than greek yogurt for Breakfast (sometimes not even that), the easiest time of day to eat (literally) is after 8 pm.

I am trying to be really honest with myself about this band but I am sooooo afraid of getting Fluid out and being able to eat too much, but on the other hand I leave for a cruise in 1 week and I am afraid I will not enjoy myself because I might have to get up in the middle of our fancy dinner and make a run for the nearest restroom to throw up. Some people think I will be more relaxed there and should have a better opportunity to eat easier while on the cruise but I just don't know.

Please ANY advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

You sound too tight to me. Having a slight unfill does not mean you have to have a lot taken out. The tiniest amount can make a huge difference. Weight loss is not good if you aren't getting adequate Protein. Most people start losing again once they get that little tiny unfill.

Plus, throwing up a lot is what causes a slip.

Hi! My name is Jen, I am 38 and live in central NJ. I've been divorced for 4 years (with separation- 5 years) and have just dated since then but not found "Mr. Right". I have decided to take a break from dating so I can focus on me & my children. I'm finally scheduled for May 17 (yay!!!) I am very happy with my life and co-parent with my Ex-husband since he moved out 5 years ago. I have a great support system which includes my family and friends.

I too look forward to meeting more single bandsters!:eek::thumbup:

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
