Well into week #5 and doing my thing - didn't monitor my Fluid intake and WHAMMO! Dehydrated... my fault, totally avoidable, wasting a PTO day at work as a result. I am slamming fluids today and need to formalize a fluid intake plan until it's a habit. No matter how many times they hammer into your head, FLUIDS FLUIDS FLUIDS, I am a man and had to figure it out the hard way, LOL

I understand that one... I've been so good on my Fluid intake, until the last week. I'm really disappointed because it smacks of my old pattern of being good the first month or so on a "diet" then getting complacent and slacking off.

But this time we cannot do that can we? it can be dangerous and warrant a trip to the hospital!

Good luck to you today as I sit here drinking water... :)

I'm trying to get in the habit of small, frequent amounts of Fluid before I even have my consult. I've set up an Outlook reminder at work that reminds me to sip. It goes off every ten minutes, so every ten minutes I'm getting at least a bit of fluid. I hope it'll help!

I've managed a 16.9 oz bottle every 90 minutes so far today - will have to take a break soon though because I need to eat some Protein. Lesson learned for sure!

I guess that's the hardest part for me. I feel sometimes like I'm devoting my whole day to the timing of fluids and meals...

I hope that at some point it becomes second nature and not a full time job!

VSGKirk...how are you able to drink a 16.9 oz bottle in 90 minutes? Please share your secret. It takes me almost the entire day to finish a bottle of Water.< /p>

The thought of experiencing dehydration again is a good motivator! LOL - I'm trying to re-learn that I must drink out of need, not thirst. So I'm watching the clock today and every 10 minutes or so, I'm taking at least 2oz. I let that go down and 10 minutes later, another swig!

GI specialist took a look with the camera last week but wouldn't stretch out the area because she said since my surgery was done recently(1/11) she didn't want to risk damaging the sutures. So I'm left in limbo basically :-(

Nope. I'm going to my regular doctor tomorrow to talk to her about this. I'm extremely worried of about being dehydrated again and the potential consequences. ,

I saw him that same day before he sent me off to the GI specialist and he said I would have to be dilated. His office called me yesterday to see how I was doing, I told them I was pretty much the same. The receptionist said she'd tell my surgeon and if they needed any more info then they'd call me back.

Good to see you have a plan in place to keep you on track. I buy 23.7oz bottles, take 4 out every morning that way I know exactly where I stand. I can look at my Water bottles and easily see if I am where in need to be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
