from glad to scared back to glad

Recommended Posts

I just became a member to this group. I got my surgery date today, Feb 18 and have bounced back and forth from euphoric to terrified. I have tried so many things to lose weight, but this is the most radical. I really believe that this is my best chance to change my life and be healthy, but there have been a few moments today that I thought Oh my God, can I really do this? I start my pre surgery low calorie diet tomorrow and am trying to get myself in the right mind set for this. Does everyone swing back and forth like this? One minute I'm so ready and the next I am so apprehensive.

I am right there with you my date is for the 19th I have been doing the "nutrition counseling" for 6 months so I have had to wait FOREVER. Now I am starting to get nervous especially for the liquid diet portion(ten days of hell for a fatty). but I know I can do it. The rest of the feelings I try to stuff. I know this is the right thing for me and I will just have to face the challenges as they come and try not to worry about the what ifs. I had two very challenging pregnancys with LOTS of morning sickness. I figure if I can do that, I will be able to get through the first 6 months of anything. Hang in there, if you know that this is really what you want to do just put your head down and go for it :P

I think everyone goes through that! I almost walked out of the prep room IV and all. Good thing for the nurse who talked me down. I had surgery on 12/18 and am down a total of 47 lbs from pre-op diet and post op weight loss. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I am getting back my confidence and feeling better everyday. If you were not nervous that would be odd. Good Luck you will be great! :D

I felt a little scared going into it. actually a lot scared when they wheeled me into the operating room!

I tried and succeeded so many times before losing weight only to then gain the weight back. It was time for something "radical".

I feel blessed that I am able to do this! I know it sounds corny, but I read everyday about people here for whatever reason that are not able to have the surgery and I am sad for them and realize I was given a great gift, a great opportunity to change my life, for my family and me! :)

Good luck to you!

Laura

Don't let the liquid diet get you down, I did and I kinda had to eat a solid here and there just to keep myself from going crazy. The whole process was scaring me and I kept wondering if there was another way. Once I gave in to my tiny piece of chicken here or a piece of fruit I was ok. Surgery went off without a hitch and I'm on day 6 post op. We are going to be doing a lot of changing in our lives to keep our sleeve healthy. Trying to stay on an all liquid diet was hard. Some people don't even have to limit to liquids before the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
