Still trying to figure out how to do this... Continuing on.... So, before sugery, I removed all the junk from the house, my boys are overweight too, and we were on the path to a lifestyle change. I lost 20 lbs before surgery, and both my boys were looking good. After surgery, they had friends over, the junk crept in slowly with carbs for the friends and then spiraled out of control to corn dogs and pizza rolls again. The worst part was that only 4 days post op I began convincing myself that I could "blend" anything in my mouth, and I have eaten all kinds of things " off menu". I'm starting to scare myself. I don't want to land myself back in the hospital, but at night, I feel like I am starving! And protien shakes are just not cutting it. When I eat cottage cheese, I only get in 3 or 4 baby spoon bites before I'm sick and way too full. But I can eat goldfish crackers all day long and it doesn't hurt! Why is that? All the good for me stuff makes me nauseous and all the bad stuff feels good... So, has anyone out there done something like this, and how did you overcome? I have to loose this weight, and in the last week I have only lost 2 lbs. I have 120 to lose, so it should come off fast at first right? Help!

I don't think that there is a black and white issue that is going to get easily resolved on this board. I think the help you need may best come from having a good conversation with your nutritionist, and maybe possibly someone that focuses in eating type disorders. The surgery is only one part of a very complicated equation. There's nothing magical about the surgery that is going to make the weight go away. It takes a ton of effort and commitment. A change of lifestyle, especially in the first few months, is key to having a successful outcome. Getting on a sound nutritional plan, and staying there is really the only way to make this whole process worthwhile. Many will tell you that they can eat what ever they want, but if you are having issues with what you are eating, a real significant change is something that you might really want to consider. If you are eating carbs and off the menu, you are not doing what you need to do to be successful, even if your capacity to hold food is less. The body can adapt to anything you put into it, and if you continue to put carbs in there, that's pretty much just like eating sugar and the body stores that for later instead of burning it for energy. I hope that you fine the answer that you seek, but I really do hope you talk to your nutritionist about it. Good Luck, I wish you nothing but success! :)

Every Doctor has a different program. Mine is one week of Clear liquids. Week 2 all liquids still but can add in Protein shakes, sugar free pudding Jello etc. The 3rd week is pureed foods maybe baby foods anything ( well not anything) thatcan be liquified. and Then week is soft foods cream of wheat, pureed tury and gravy etc So far I am 5 days post op and have lost 12 pounds. Granted its Water weight because I am havinhard time keeping up wh my liquids and keeping them down. I did cheat a lile and am having small sips of Protein Shakes and smallspoon fulls of sf vanilla pudding.< /p>

I ree that within the firstfew mohs you should lose the most weight. I would contact your nutritionist.

Goldfish are sliders, they have no substance and no nutritional value...they slide right through. Try eating low fat string cheese and pureed Protein. You can puree just about anything in your blender. Just add low fat chicken/beef stock to it. My NUT even suggested that I puree the spaghetti that I made my family for dinner. DE-LISH!!...taste like ...Spaghetti! :D Protein is gonna stave off hunger longer and your sleeve and the scale are gonna love you for it! Wishing you the best on your journey!

I understand where you are coming from, I am one week post op today and I think the hardest part is smelling and seeing what my family is eating..... So far I haven't given in but it's been the most tempting thing in the world to me. I new before hand that I ate unhealthy but I never realized that I LOVE food. I am so glad that I found this site where I have gotten the chance to talk with other people like me. So far it has helped me get through something that is a lot harder then I thought it was gonna be. Hopefully you find some people to talk to as well cause with what you are doing could be dangerous or even deadly.

Wow, awesome response from everyone so quickly. I really appreciate that.... My doctor gave me Clear Liquids in the hospital, I was only there overnight, then sent me home with instructions to eat " blended" food for the next ten weeks. I did not recieve any instruction about what to blend. But, years of dieting has taught me that junk food is just that, junk. Also, blended does not mean chewed, and I know that. I dont have a NUT, and I have not seen my surgeon, only a nurse for a follow up 4 days post op. She was mostly interested in my incisions, which were covered in hives, apparently I'm allergic to the dissolving stitches... So taking Benadryl for that. I have been given whole pills to take, potassium and prilosec and have tolorated them just fine. Maybe because my surgeon uses a size 48 boogie? I don't know. Also, I feel like the top of the stapled corner of my stomch is rubbing under my ribs, very uncomfortable, anyone else feel this?

I have no idea what a size 48 boogie is...... I can't feel my stomach at all, and I haven't felt full yet, but from what I've read and been told on here I probably won't till I start my semi-solid faze. I am so looking forward to this on 2/10. I've been finding tons of good recipes on here. As for pills I can take them but they need to be small or I cut them in half. If you need some help with what to do, you can find vertical sleeve after care directions online or on here of course. Each doctor is different on directions on after care though. It is a little weird your doctor didn't go over any after care instructions or that you don't have a NUT, did you self pay for the procedure?

No, I had Medicaid, but that might be why I don't have the extras, maybe medicaid won't cover?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
