I wouldn't recommend it; I was told not to have more than a baby spoon of rice because it expands in your stomach. So if you eat until you're full, then it expands...you vomit! So if you try it, good luck!

Rice is one of those foods I consider nutritionally irrelevant. It occupies so much space, and for what? Not a lot of good nutrition there and you would be better served by allocating that space to veggies, assuming you already have had your Protein in. They have a better amount of carbs and other nutrition your body needs.

I'm not saying you can't eat rice, and I have and do occassionally, but only after I have reached all of my other nutrition goals. i wasn't able to do this until I was about 6 months out.

I agree 100%. Same goes for me with white bread and Pasta.

Always go by your surgeon's instructions.

That said, I eat rice and it goes down/settles fine! I am 6 weeks out.

I have no problems with rice and enjoy it along with Pasta, breads, etc... but I would wait a bit longer before trying it..... It's definitely very filling and there is really no nutritional value.. BUT... The key is moderation..... You will have to reintroduce foods back into your diet and what you liked before you may not be able to tolerate now. Protein should always be what you put in your mouth first... supplement with veggies and starches.... :)

What does your doctor allow? At 3 weeks out rice is typically NOT an allowed food in any form.

That said, I do have a bite or two of rice on occasion (wild mushroom risotto) but I can't eat much more than 1/3 cup at most (i'm allowed 1/2 for a meal). I think I had it first at about 4 months from my first surgery (3 from the second...I have odd rules LOL). I wasn't allowed it prior to three months per both docs instructions.

I'm with PDXMan. I didn't add starches back in till I was able to eat my Protein and veggies and have a little room left over. It was probably at least one year before I was able to eat rice and untoasted bread. Before that they made me feel sick.

If you really love the rice and feel deprived without it, have just a small spoon to see how it settles.

The answer is no, you are only three weeks out you should be on pureed stage. Do you not have a food plan to follow or a NUT to consult?

That's a good point. I don't have rice or any pure starch if I haven't eaten my Protein for the day. I also can't have a glass of wine if I am not a good girl and haven't had my fluids. :) I'm my best bossy nutritionist LOL No treats if your homework isn't done!

I do have a NUT and she told me that I was ready to move past puréed to soft food. I can only eat four to five bites at a time. I appreciate your feedback. I think I am just going through some major mental hunger. It's so hard when I have to cook for others. I can only get Protein in at this point. I can't add veggies they just don't fit.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
