Different Pain Meds Suggestions....

Recommended Posts

I am currently taking a liquid pain killer but after 5 days I am sick of the taste. Any suggestions? I haven't tried anything in pill form, its all been chewable (Multi Vitamin) ( Chewable Calcium) Etc. Does anyone have any problems taking pills? Has anyone tried Vicodin or something less strong? I'm debating if the pain is worth not taking the medicine but sometimes it does get to be really bad, especially when I'm trying to get out of bed.. When I am up, the pain only seems to be on the left side where the largest incision is and I've noticed pain in my lower back and shoulders. My nutritionist did mention gas pains up in the shoulders and to move around alot, which I've been doing. Not sure what is causing the lower back pain. Any suggestions are helpful, I check here often to see what others are trying. I still seem to be swollen around the incision so I know it will take time for me to notice if I've lost any weight. Patience I've learned over the years...lol Thank you for any advice :)

I did not like the liquid Hydrocodone, aside from the chance of addiction, I didn't like the way it made me feel. Anyway, the pain, for me, was not worth taking the 'big boy' meds during the day after I was discharged. I took liquid Tylenol and used a heating pad during the day and got Tylenol #3 and took it at night. I sleep on my side and when I'd turn over, it was a little painful. I only took it for not quite two weeks. I had problems with one incision, the one right by my belly button. The others healed nicely but that one fought me every step of the way!! :) They had me put triple antibiotic ointment on it and it didn't take long for it to be all better!!

The liquid vicodin kept me awake for 3 nights I finally went in to urgent care and got a prescription for Tylenol #3. I also learned to crawl in bed and not use my stomach muscles. I'd put my knees up on the bed and then lower myself down. It truly made a big difference. Here's to a speedy recovery.....:)

I only used the liquid hydrocodone for a couple of days after I got home and mostly just to sleep. I sleep on my stomach and the staples were annoying. Other than that, and since then, I've been taking Tylenol just fine in the pill format.

Thank you for all the responses, It really helps knowing I've got a support group to wake up too...:) I will try the Tylenol and see if that helps and if I need something stronger, perhaps the good Dr will prescribe the Tylonel 3 for night time. :) I hope everyone has a great day

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
