Anyone eating nuts?

Recommended Posts

I keep a bag of pistachios at work for the afternoons I need a little something. They are my favorite, and getting them out of the shell makes you eat them one at a time.

I'm 3 months out and like almonds and pistachios.

I'll also have 5 or 6 walnuts halves crushed in my hand and sprinkled on natural yoghurt with a little bit of honey.

This is good to know, I thought I could never have any nuts again.

Just remember they are little calorific bombs.

Healthy but high in cals. I think even with a sleeve we have to be conscious of the amount we eat.

Emerald nuts have a 100 calorie pack of almonds that I get. I don't eat them everyday but they are a great snack that I have a couple times a week

I was told to wait for 6 weeks but I can't really eat nuts in moderation so I can't buy them. They are healthy usually but they do have fat content and I don't leave them alone. I also feel like they might be something that slide down too easily.

Thanks for all the replies! I still eat them once a day, maybe twice if I don't have anything else handy on the run.

For everyone worried about fat...why? I know we are told different things. But look into low carb. The only restriction I have is no more than 30 net carbs a day. I was literally told (by my surgeon and dietician) DO NOT WORRY about calories and fat anymore. As long as I stay below my carb count I am free to choose what I want. I actually stopped losing when i started worrying about calories. I had read to much about how sleevers were concerned with it and got confused about my own directions. A trip to the dietician got me back in track. Now, when I get to my goal I can up the carbs slowly until I figure out my magic carb number. That's the number I will be able to eat in a day that doesn't make me gain, but stops the weight loss.

Anyhow, just thought I would share that. Oh, and for he person concerned with nuts being a slider food...of course this could just be me, because we are all different, but I portion out 1 oz and it fills me up. No need to eat more. Then again, they so taste good so I could see that being an issue for some.

Thanks again for all the help!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
