Anyone eating nuts?

Recommended Posts

I started eating them about a month post-op and had no problems. Just start with a small amount and chew like crazy and you should be fine. I'm six months out now and there is literally nothing I can't eat. Even spicy stuff!

Blue Diamond makes 100 Calorie packs that are great for in the purse, office desk drawer, car glove box for when you need that little Protein boost on the go. I buy the raw almonds and as Minckle say just chew chew chew and you should be fine.

I've been eating nuts since just a few weeks out. I eat two servings every day, even now at goal. They have good Protein and high Fiber. I get unsalted so mine are low sodium. Best part - they required some serious chewing!

Started at about 6 weeks out. No problems. Love nuts. They are a good part of a regular diet. :)

My plan prohibits nuts until month 4. My NUT said they are a little over cautious about that, but the fear is that some small particle could get caught in the suture line and cause problems. Sames goes for fruits with seeds, like berries. I'd love some stawberries and pecans about now....

I spoke to my dietitian and she said that they were fine for me. Again, I was sleeved on 12/28/12. I bought the ones with the least carb and most fiber. At my local store it happened to be the deluxe mixed nuts by planters with 50% less peanuts. They are salty and crunchy and makes an interesting addition to my diet. I am eating one to two servings of 1 ounce a day.

I've been eating nuts since about 6 weeks post-op. I haven't had any problems. I LOVE nuts! I buy the big bags at SAMs of the specific kind I like and mix them all together. Sometimes I add a small amount of crasins for that little surprise sweet treat.

I wish I could eat nuts. I get a weird feeling in my esophagus, like the acid feeling, when I eat just a few almonds and I have to stop.

You might look into nuts.com energy squares. They are about the size of dice and have a mixture of different nuts held together with a little molasses. Two are 120 calories and provide good energy before or during a long and hard cardio or strength training exercise ( greater then 30 min). There are quite a few varieties on nut.com, but I have only tried chocolate paradise. Love it. I know Butter The Bean mentioned he has tried a lot of the varieties, so hopefully he will post here or you can PM him for info.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
