Well, I'm officially on my two-day clear liquid only diet as of two hours ago. I can actually only have Water from now until tomorrow afternoon because I have to get some labs done at my cardiologist. On the one hand, I was not terribly excited about that, but on the other, the clear Protein Shake will look like a feast by the time I get to it. I can't believe this is it. I have this slight panicky feeling that's trying to tell me that the dinner I had tonight was my last enjoyable meal ever. I know that's not the case, and even if it was the case, I'd still know I had to do this surgery. I feel the freak out creeping up on me a little at a time as I get closer to walking into that hospital Wednesday morning. All I can do is take one breath at a time, and one step at a time, and just do this. Okay, as I write this, I'm really feeling how terrified I am. I need some words, please. Some people to tell me how worth it this was to them, and how much better they felt in the weeks and months after surgery.

Off topic question, are you a Fable fan? I am, and can't wait for number 4.

But about the sleeve, don't be afraid. You are making the right decision. I just had mine done Jan 14 and I have already lost 31 lbs. The surgical recovery (for me) was totally a breeze, and my doctor allowed me to progress quickly through the stages of food to soft Proteins. I was off pain meds in less than a week, back to work in two.

But the main thing to remember is that YOU are more important than food. Please don't be offended by this, but those of us who have been over 400 lbs have probably elevated food to an unnatural level of importance. Yes, you will eat delicious food again but much more meaningful is the fact that you are saving your own life! Have faith in yourself and this choice you have made, it will help you.

I just want to say your making the right choice and good luck! :) you have the right frame of mind taking it one step at a time, thats what this is all about. its funny but for me afterwards foods I liked I now hate. they make me feel sick, and its painful to digest so I actually enjoy healthy options more. Always remember that if people judge you for not doing this the "natural way" that this takes a person who has allot of strength, determination and not just anyone can do it. we all know the "natural way" doesnt just work magically for everyone! I hope it all goes smoothly for you and good luck girl! :)

When I started my journey I weighed over 400lbs. I know what you mean about thinking your last meal is the last one you will enjoy as I had the same thought. I had my sleeve 1/15/13 and it has been the best decision ever!! I had a great surgery and my recovery has been swift with no problems! Sweetie, you will enjoy eating again I promise! The difference for me is, the first 2 bites of something are awesome then my senses kick in and I pay attention to how I'm eating and then it becomes more about nourishing my body. Your tastes will change! I loved tuna and after surgery I can't even stand the smell of it! I hated cottage cheese prior and love it now! It's so weird, the changes that will go on in your body. And even tho I'm only 3 weeks out I'm already pretty used to eating again and yesterday my friend who I saw only last weekend came to my house for Super Bowl yesterday AND CALLED ME SKINNY! It was awesome! She could already see the difference! Don't be scared. Enjoy this whole experience and you will do fine! Good luck! My thoughts will be with you as you embark this new chapter in your life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
